From the Roof to the Roots: Supporting the Princess Anne Garden Club

We often say that a home needs a good "hat" (the roof) and good "boots" (the foundation and landscaping). That’s why The Roofing Company, Inc. was so excited to trade their ladders for garden trowels—metaphorically speaking—and support the Princess Anne Garden Club at their 14th Annual "Party in the Park" last month!

On Saturday, November 1st, our team headed out to the beautiful First Landing State Park for an afternoon of community, conservation, and celebration.

Hands-On History with Slate

We didn't just want to stand behind a table; we wanted to bring a piece of the roofing trade to the park.

We set up a station where neighbors could stop by and pick up a free slate coaster—but the real fun was for those who wanted to make their own! We brought along our antique slate cutting board, the exact same tool roofers have used for over 100 years to trim slate tiles.

It was a blast teaching people how to use the cutter to craft their own coasters. It was a great way to show that while technology changes, some of the best tools (and techniques) in our industry are timeless. We still use that same type of cutter on job sites today!

Highlights from the Party

The weather couldn't have been better for the event. We had a great time catching up with neighbors, browsing the silent auction items, and enjoying the live music from The Tikki Bar Band.

We even had a fun surprise when Jimmy Ray from 97.3 The Eagle (who was playing in the band!) stopped by our booth. He was intrigued by the slate setup and stopped to chat and introduce himself. It was a pleasure to meet a local radio legend and snap a quick photo!

We are already looking forward to next year’s event to support the conservation of our beautiful local parks.
