The Roofing & Remodeling Company is pleased to announce that four finalists have been selected in our first No Roof Left Behind™ campaign. No Roof Left Behind is a nationwide program that gives community members a way to help deserving neighbors that have fallen on hard times.
The current finalists were chosen by a committee from among 31 nominations submitted by local residents online from May 14 to August 16, 2014. Learn more about these deserving Hampton Roads families in need of a new roof. Team Yvette Elder. Yvette Elder was nominated by two friends who describe her as “a very caring, beautiful person.” She is a widow and supports her children with limited Social Security income. The family volunteers with Wags for Warriors of Virginia to train service dogs to help veterans who may have physical handicaps or PTSD. Yvette’s Chesapeake roof has reached the end of its service life and is in dire need of replacement.
Sick, Tired and Broke. This Hampton couple has suffered from ongoing health problems that have left them with mounting medical bills and no means to fix their old roof. The wife was hospitalized for a hysterectomy due to cancer, and recently found out her cancer has returned. This will require more treatments and prevent her from operating her home daycare. She worries that their roof will not make it through another winter.
Mama Needs a New Roof. Pam Denney was nominated for No Roof Left Behind by her daughter. Pam lost her husband of 31 years just a few months ago. Her husband, Carl, operated a non-profit that used its proceeds to give book bags and school supplies to children, Thanksgiving meals to families in need, and send others on mission trips. The couple’s generosity meant the roof on their older Hampton home was neglected. “Her family gives back to the community in so many ways,” says a friend. “I truly hope the community will now give back to her.”
Special Ed Teacher’s House is Special Needs! Laura Norma was nominated by her mom and a friend. She is a single mother of three young children and works as a Special Education Teacher for Chesapeake Public Schools. As a teacher, her salary is just enough to pay her bills including childcare for three children. Her husband recently left her with credit card debt and no child support. To make matters worse, her Chesapeake, VA, roof leaks into the children’s rooms. “I couldn’t think of a more deserving person,” says a friend. “Laura’s always either there to lend a hand or coming to the rescue.”
Voting for the free roof giveaway is open through September 15th, and the winner will be revealed online on September 26th. Later this fall, there will be an installation celebration somewhere in Hampton or Chesapeake! Vote now for a deserving family to receive a free roof.
