Extreme Home Makeover

Extreme Home Makeover

During the week of January 30 – February 5, 2011, a crew from The Roofing Company and The Remodeling Company had the opportunity to help on the Virginia Beach Extreme Home Makeover house. The stunning new residence was built for a local family with six adopted daughters.

On the front of the new home, there was a cedar design that the home designers had a concept for, but weren’t sure how to implement it. We’re very proud that our staff was listening to the dilemma while standing in the cold at night, designed what they wanted on-site, installed it and made the entire thing come to life in front of the Extreme Team’s eyes! Way to go RoofCo!!

4 Technology Trends for the Modern-Day Kitchen

4 Technology Trends for the Modern-Day Kitchen
Blog

The kitchen renovation design game is definitely changing. No longer are cabinets, colors and layout the only considerations. The heart of the home has skipped a beat with new functionality that taps into modern technology while keeping tradition in mind. Keep ahead of trends in kitchen remodeling in Virginia Beach by considering these upgrades.

  • Mobile device charging stations. Electronics now essential to modern life often wind up at rest in the kitchen, where families spend much of their time. That’s why charging stations are one of the fastest-growing trends in kitchen design. Forget about a tangle of chargers and cords cluttering counter space; instead, tablets and smartphones find a home inside pull-out drawers and discreet cabinets, where they can charge without being an eyesore or getting lost in the shuffle.
  • Professional-grade appliances. Modern-day home cooks increasingly expect the same performance from their appliances as the professionals. Professional-grade appliances such as steam ovens, fryers, induction cooktops and teppanyaki griddles give home cooks the tools needed to cook better and faster. Many new appliances include Wi-Fi capability, which allows them to be operated from another part of the home.
  • Smart faucets. Faucets now have a mind of their own with LED technology that allows them to be tapped on and off by touching anywhere on the body or handle, or hands-free sensors that identify when an object is placed beneath the spout. Other models feature a pull-down or pull-out spout, spot-resistant finishes and Microban® antimicrobial protection to stop the growth of bacteria.
  • Carefree kitchen surfaces. While beautiful, granite countertops require routine sealing to ward off stains and bacteria growth. Engineered quartz – created by combining 95% quartz with 5% polymer resin – now rivals granite in popularity because it is maintenance-free and available in dozens of unique varieties that look like granite or natural stone.

A Room with a View: Building a Mother-in-Law Suite in the Running Man Neighborhood of Yorktown

Blog

Stephen and Cynthia Benson are the proud owners of a recently expanded home on Tuckahoe Trace in the Running Man neighborhood. The couple’s three-bedroom, 3,200-square-foot home required the addition of a mother-in-law suite when Cynthia’s 90-year-old mother came to live with them in 2010.

Stephen and Cynthia chose The Roofing & Remodeling Company to build the addition to the home, and were referred by friends who recommended us as an expert in Hampton Roads room additions. Utilizing a design-build approach, they worked alongside the remodeling team to tailor the layout to the needs of a spry yet aging tenant.

The mechanical and structural systems of the existing home were first evaluated, after which The Remodeling Company’s design consultant, Jesse Wyatt, helped the Bensons explore possibilities for the new addition. Cynthia notes that her mother was also involved in the design and selection process. During the design phase of the process, they identified the need for a bedroom, a handicap-accessible bathroom, a small sitting area with a view, and a small kitchenette.

The careful planning resulted in a beautiful, custom-built, 325-square-foot addition that includes a small bathroom with a sun tunnel, shower, vanity and comfort-height water closet. A 6×6 walk-in closet off the bedroom features a modifiable shelving system by ClosetMaid®. There’s a kitchenette area with sink, microwave and small refrigerator. The Bensons also chose a full-view patio door to allow views of the birds, squirrels and other wildlife that frequent the backyard.

Sadly, Cynthia’s mother became ill while the addition was under construction, but Cynthia notes that the Remodeling Company team asked about her often. She spent much time away as her mother recovered and went through rehabilitation, but never felt uncomfortable leaving the house while the workers were there.

Once she was well enough to come home, Cynthia’s mother loved her new space. “Even though she suffered from a very debilitating disease, she could stand up out of the wheelchair and do things for herself all the way to the end,” Cynthia says. Her mother lived in the room until she passed away in August 2013 at the age of 93.

Because she had sold her own home and used the proceeds to fund the construction of the mother-in-law suite, Cynthia’s mother had expressed the wish that her great-grandson, Kyle, would be able to use the space after she was gone. She and Kyle had a close relationship and spent countless hours together as he grew up. Kyle currently attends Thomas Nelson Community College, and now calls the comfortable room addition on Tuckahoe Trace his home.

Cynthia notes that everyone at The Roofing & Remodeling Company was wonderful throughout the project, which is why she and Stephen have since hired us to replace the roof, update three skylights and build a screened-in porch along the back of the house that blends with the room addition. She believes all of the recent updates will be a distinct advantage when they sell the home.

The Roofing & Remodeling Company expertly handles all sizes of room additions throughout Hampton Roads. For more information, click here or call (757) 867-6600.

Get Your Own Kitchen Remodeled with the Help of Professionals

Blog

What’s better than having a handsome husband who can also double as a handyman? An article from HamptonRoads.com shares the story of how the “Hottest Dad in America” redid their kitchen—successfully.

“He’s a really hardworking man, and he doesn’t stop when he gets home – he’s always building something for us or for the kids,” Marley, a commercial artist, wrote for the contest.

The latest “something” is a renovated kitchen in the 1947 Colonial that the couple share with their children – daughter Langley, 15, and son Grey, 11 – and the family’s two bull terriers in Portsmouth’s Churchland section.

The Ungaros completed the project last year in two months’ worth of weekends.

“I’m the designer, and Andrew does most of the building,” Marley said. “I help out some, but he gets it done every time.”

Andrew, in turn, credits Marley with ferreting out good deals, finding free materials for projects, thinking creatively and pinching pennies to get the most for their money.

While this is indeed an inspiring story, not everyone can perform kitchen remodeling on their own like this amazing couple did. Not all homeowners have the skills and tools to complete such a demanding project—not to mention you may not have two months’ worth of weekends to spare.

There are also serious safety risks you ought to consider if you aren’t trained in construction or if you’re using potentially harmful chemicals. If you want to give your kitchen a fresh look without the hassle and without the danger, it is better to call a Virginia Beach kitchen remodeling professional to ensure the fast and safe completion of a high quality improvement project.

As one of the specialists in home remodeling in Virginia Beach, The Roofing and Remodeling Company will work within your budget, make sure that you receive the best service, and get you the kitchen you’ve always wanted. Give us a call today and let’s talk. We will come up with recommendations that suit your specifications.

Home Improvement Resolutions: 3 Common Practices to Avoid

Blog

Perhaps you’ve already started on that new diet or a couple of exercise routines you promised yourself to do for a while now. What about your home, especially your roofing in Virginia Beach? Have you set several home improvement goals? If not, you still have time to do so. In fact, we at The Roofing and Remodeling Company have a couple of suggestions for you.

Instead of recommending more things to add on to your list, how about correcting some old habits and common wrong practices?

Here’s our take:

1. Putting Off Repairs

One common mistake that some homeowners make is postponing a much-needed roof fix just because it still works … technically. The danger here is you might not be prepared once your roof actually breaks down. At first, it can be a minor crack or leak, but you never know how fast the damage can develop. Because your roof is one of your home’s major defenses against inclement weather and other external elements, you have a problem.

There is still good news, though, as help is at hand! Get in touch with professional roofers like us at The Roofing and Remodeling Company to take care of your roofing needs. However, this doesn’t mean that you can do away with maintenance, which is still essential if you want your current roofing to last for longer.

2. Setting an Unrealistic Budget

Any work related to roofs can be quite costly. You don’t want to go cheap as quality means everything in home improvement. This year, take time to check your entire household and list down which components needs fixing, from the most to the least urgent. Of course, you can work with what you have—unless there is a pressing need for new or additional fixtures.

As a certified roofing and remodeling company, we suggest starting with renovations to existing areas in your home. In this way, you can still update your home, but all within your allocated budget.

3. Hiring Incompetent Contractors

To prevent spending more, make sure you hire professional roofers in Virginia Beach. Not all roof installers are equipped and trained for safety and efficiency. Further, chances are some roofers won’t go the extra mile for your other roofing needs. But we at The Roofing and Remodeling will! We have been the leading choice for various roofing and remodeling services in the Hampton Roads and Virginia Peninsula region for over 15 years.

Our professional contractors are GAF Master Elite™ certified who specialize in a range of services, including the repair and preservation of historic buildings. The products we use are from the country’s leading brands, including GAF, CertainTeed, Pella, and Simonton. So this is another reason to feel more secured when getting our services.

We hope we were able to provide valuable information on your home improvement resolutions. Make your home more beautiful and functional this year. Just give us a call at (757) 903-0050 and let us know how we can help.

Home Improvement: Why Move Out When You Can Always Add On

Blog

As a family gets bigger, one practical question comes to mind: Should you move out and find a larger space?

With the housing market still reeling from the recent economic slowdown, packing up to find a bigger house for your growing family might not be the most cost-effective decision; certainly not with the current state of economy. Your best option is to remodel.

For want of more spacious rooms for cooking, eating and bathing – with an extra room for family bonding – home additions in Virginia Beach could be the solution you are looking for.

This article from Better Homes and Gardens talks about the advantages of room additions for your family:

Boosting main-floor square footage with house additions is usually the chief benefit; extra roominess in that part of the house is especially important because it’s where your family spends the most time together. A new family room, a spacious eating area, a master suite, or a den/home office is bound to make your home more livable and increase its value, particularly if it lacks these spaces now.

When envisioning a room addition, it’s important to factor in other, less obvious advantages. For instance, a new room opens your house in a new direction, with views your existing rooms don’t have.

Take time searching for a professional contractor that does room additions in Hampton Roads and charges reasonable rates without compromising on the choice of design and material. Aside from guaranteeing the comfort of your family, know that home improvements can do a great deal to enhance your home’s curb appeal and increase its overall market value.

For small or large room additions and remodeling projects in Norfolk, Chesapeake, Newport News, Hampton Roads and Virginia Beach, The Roofing & Remodeling Company comes highly recommended if you want to achieve exactly the design you want and get the most out of your remodeling investment.

Improving Economy May Increase Demand for Remodeling in Virginia Beach

Blog

An improving U.S. economy may increase the demand for home remodeling in Virginia Beach, Virginia. With homeowners having more disposable income to spend and a pent up demand for home improvement projects, contractors will have a lot to look forward to in the following months.

This same sentiment is echoed in a Lake Zurich Courier article published recently:

“Exhibitors voiced a cacophony of optimism for a better year because of the improving economy at the two-day Home Building & Remodeling Expo …”

“They based their upbeat outlook on the number of what they called “serious” inquiries, leads and appointments they received. …”

“The economy has been down too long and people have deferred their home improvement,” said Dave Hammerl, president of Stonecrafters in Lakemoor which makes, among other stone products, counter tops.

“Now that the economy is recovering, the next 3-5 years will be tremendous as homeowners start to loosen up,” he added.

This is certainly welcome news for companies that service the Hampton Roads, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Newport News, and Virginia Beach—like The Roofing and Remodeling Company. Such companies are expected to post a banner year for remodeling projects this year. After the construction slow down following the recession, new growth in the home improvement sector could help companies trim some of the losses they suffered during the downturn.

With competition for the sudden upsurge in demand likely to be stiff, homeowners should be able to look forward to a market flooded with choices. In order to find the right contractor to deal with their remodeling projects, homeowners should turn to companies that have built a reputation for quality and professionalism doing kitchen remodeling in Virginia Beach. Reputable contractors can work on a variety of projects, such as installing custom cabinets in kitchens, designing and building room additions, and remodeling bathrooms.

Kitchen Remodeling: Why It’s Better to Hire a Pro

Blog

Home improvement projects like kitchen remodeling are no easy feat. They require your best efforts, which can be labor- and time-intensive. Busy people will need to clear a chunk of their schedule to make way for routine errands, such as purchasing equipment and checking out supplies, among others.

To avoid dealing with these and similar hassles, why not leave the work to the pros? It is best to trust the hands of an expert on kitchen remodeling in Virginia Beach. Let’s learn why:

Reason 1: Time is gold.

There are many technical and mechanical aspects of a home remodeling project, kitchen remodeling included. As a homeowner, researching about all these things can eat up more of your time than you’re willing to spare. A home remodeling professional will commit to spend time researching, planning, designing, and actually making your dream kitchen a reality. It’s better to spend your precious time bonding with your family than holing yourself in your room researching about all this, correct?

Reason 2: Knowledge is power.

Consulting and actually hiring a professional may add to the possibilities when it comes to home remodeling. Also, a professional is there to help you compromise your wants and dreams for your kitchen with what is actually needed. This can be done by giving you resources that you can look at so you’ll have an idea of what’s to be done to your home. Not only will you have your kitchen revamped, but you’ll also learn something.

Reason 3: The language is spoken.

Being knowledgeable about the different aspects of a home remodeling project, a professional is able interpret different plans, designs, and drawings of your home. An inexperienced eye may misinterpret technical details, which can cause the project to falter. Moreover, a professional contractor who speaks the language can help sway suppliers into giving a reduced price for tools and materials.

Reason 4: Trust is gained.

In whatever industry, especially in the home remodeling industry, reputation is everything and trust for remodeling contractors is gained. You can check and confirm a particular professional’s work ethic by talking to their previous clients or by checking industry review sites like Angie’s List. Professional remodelers who are highly recommended are seen as the best in the industry.

Put your trust in us, The Roofing and Remodeling Company, to do your kitchen or bathroom remodeling in Virginia Beach and other home upgrades. We care about your home as much you do. Call us now and learn why we put our clients’ satisfaction at the top of our priority list.

Remodeling in Virginia Beach: What to Know Before You Tear Down That Wall

Blog

Often home remodeling involves much more than updating cabinetry and replacing flooring. Your ideal home remodel may encompass major structural changes that include moving walls. If you are thinking of moving or removing a wall from a room, there are a few considerations. Most importantly, you must determine whether the wall is a load-bearing wall that supports another level of the home.

Nearly all exterior walls are load-bearing, and many interior walls are load-bearing – especially those located in the center of older homes. If there is a wall directly above or below the wall in question, it is probably a load-bearing wall. Can a load-bearing wall be moved, removed or opened up? Probably, but before taking the wall out, your remodeler will need to add support work to transfer the weight that wall is currently holding. In addition, the floor or foundation below the load-bearing wall may also need to be fortified to help support the weight. Here’s an example of how our remodeling crew prepared to move a wall during an extensive interior remodel in Mathews, Va.

Moving walls, especially load-bearing walls, should only be entrusted to an expert home remodeling contractor like The Roofing & Remodeling Company. We want to make your vision for your home come true, but we want to ensure it is done safely and in a manner that will greatly increase the value of your home, not detract from it. In addition to actual construction, we can help with every aspect of whole-house, kitchen or bath remodeling in Virginia Beach, including initial design concepts, budgeting, material selections, permits, regular progress reports and complete insight into all stages of your project.

Get the most out of your remodeling investment – in greater home value and greater personal enjoyment – with a team that makes the entire process seamless. The Roofing & Remodeling Company is here to help. We service the entire Hampton Roads and Virginia Peninsula regions, and offer deep experience in kitchen, bath and whole-house remodeling in Virginia Beach, Chesapeake, Norfolk and Newport News. Seamless and Inspirational Home Additions for Virginia Beach Homes

Blog

The continued recovery of the U.S. economy is seeing home improvement projects becoming popular once again. With some buyers still reluctant to dip their fingers into the housing market after the 2005 bubble burst that led to the Great Recession, home additions are a great way to spruce up the home. Additionally, they also serve as a budget-friendly investment that can improve the resale value of a home.

Homeowners looking for ideas for colonial-style home additions in Virginia Beach can draw inspiration from a garrison colonial home recently featured in an article on Boston.com syndicated from the Boston Globe. The article notes several large additions to the home, including a game room, a palatial master suite, a three-season porch, and an open air bar.

As evident in pictures of the finished project, a lot of respect was given to the character of the original house. Natural wood finishes dominate much of the interior surface, with flat white walls and floors to provide juxtaposition in a period style consistent throughout the home. Also, a lot of older furniture was used to add authenticity to the vintage style.

Homeowners undertaking similar projects—like adding room additions to or remodeling older buildings—should similarly be aware of how well their additions will fit into the character of the original buildings. In order to ensure that the styles of the additions and the original architecture do not clash, homeowners need to consult experienced remodeling contractors.

By hiring the right contractors, homeowners can be assured of the quality of the finished project. Experienced contractors, like those from The Roofing and Remodeling Company, can build new room additions in Newport News, Virginia, such as bedrooms, kitchens, offices, bathrooms, and master suites. Professional contractors can help homeowners decide on relevant styles and complete the addition to seamlessly blend into the original home.

Smart moves for home rental owners to do this summer

Blog

With its invitingly warm climate and picturesque beaches, Virginia Beach is undoubtedly a favorite summer destination. In the even warmer months ahead, people from within and outside the state are expected to once more flock to the beautiful shores of this vibrant coastal city.

And it looks like things are looking sunny as ever as more tourists are already set for summer, according to this Times Dispatch post:

More Americans will take a vacation this summer than last, and they’ll spend a record amount while they’re on them, says Henrico County-based Allianz Global Assistance USA.

Americans will spend an unprecedented $100 billion on summer vacations in 2014, up 20 percent from the amount spent in 2013, according to the 2014 Allianz Travel Insurance Vacation Confidence Index.

“Summer travel has rebounded strongly, and that’s good news for the travel industry,” said Mike Nelson, CEO at Allianz, a consumer specialty insurance and assistance company.

This news will prompt the local vacation home owners to prepare as the demand for rentals is expected to soar. Vacationers would opt to stay in rented homes because they find it cheaper compared to a hotel. Moreover, houses provide more space especially for a vacationing family or group of friends. It is also observed that staying in a rental home would allow for tourist to easily interact with the locals. Of course, home rentals are never short in providing privacy, if that is what a renter needs.

For home owners are who are thinking of opening up their property for rental, you are reminded that most tourists will definitely prefer a bigger house with more rooms. That is why getting home additions in Virginia Beach would be a smart thing to do.

To help you out with this project, hire the professional services of The Roofing & Remodeling Company. We have all the means – high-quality products, a well-trained crew, and all the proper equipment one would need in constructing room additions in Hampton Roads, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and Newport News. Just give us a call and we’ll give you a free quote on this important summer project.

Why Going Green is Becoming a Trend in Home Improvement

Blog

A poll was held online via The Guardian’s website and most people are interested going green these days, especially since choosing energy-efficient products over traditional ones has more benefits environmentally and economically. However, the site asks, have you succeeded in your efforts?

A poll was held online via The Guardian’s website and most people are interested going green these days, especially since choosing energy-efficient products over traditional ones has more benefits environmentally and economically. However, the site asks, have you succeeded in your efforts?

It’s something many of us intend to do. But in the last 12 months have you tangibly succeeded in reducing gas or electricity consumption at home, whether that be with your boiler, lighting or appliances, increased your insulation, or have saved water or recycled more?

It’s nearly summer and to keep yourself and your family comfortably cool, you would probably have to turn up your air conditioning for longer hours. Chances are, this sunny season would result in your electricity bills going through the roof despite your green preparations, which may not have been tuned the right way.

There are actually several ways you can reduce your energy consumption at home not just this summer, but throughout the year. One long term solution to your monthly energy woes is by making sure that your exteriors provide enough insulation that seals in cool air on hot days and warm air during cold ones. A part you can look into is your attic or roof; it is highly recommended for anyone to make investments there since spending on a good roof now can save you a lot in the long run.

But working on your own roof is very risky because one could easily slip and fall. You might also cause more damage to your home’s structure if you don’t know the proper way to install improvements or make repairs. What you can do is to contact roofers in Virginia Beach to do the work for you.

For your roofing in Virginia Beach, you can contact one of the most trusted roofers in the state – The Roofing & Remodeling Company. Just give them a call to get more information as well as tips and suggestions.

Why You Should Be Thinking About Aging-In-Place Remodeling

Why You Should Be Thinking About Aging-In-Place Remodeling
Blog

Have you heard of the term “aging in place”? Or maybe “universal design” or “accessible design”? These are all terms that refer to the same trend in home remodeling: making changes to the home that allow seniors and those who are physically challenged to stay safely and comfortably at home for as long as possible. With the population of homeowners age 55 and over at an all-time high, there is an ever-increasing need for accessible homes.

Unlike many other trends, aging-in-place will be relevant for the foreseeable future. While many older adults will require more specialized care that only an assisted living facility or nursing home can provide, the large majority can stay in their homes for an extended period of time with kitchen and bathroom remodeling in Virginia Beach, and other minor modifications that help them to be more comfortable and safe.

If you’re a homeowner in this age bracket, or if you have parents who are, you may want to consider adding the following accessible features to your home that facilitate aging-in-place.

  • Improved accessibility. Accessibility can be a major barrier for those using a wheelchair, walker or other assistive device. Widening doorways and hallways, and installing curb-free showers or a walk-in tub improves movement and makes a home look and feel more modern. Instead of a wheelchair ramp at the front of the home, which can ruin aesthetics, consider adding a wrap-around porch with a ramp at the back of the house.
  • Better lighting. Because vision starts to decline in the senior years, better lighting to illuminate hallways, stairways and steps can go a long way toward preventing falls. Motion-sensor switches eliminate the need to find light switches.
  • Lower countertops and storage. A countertop height of 30 inches, instead of the standard 36 inches, makes the kitchen easier to use for someone in a wheelchair. In addition, locating kitchen and bath storage down low instead of in upper cabinets makes it much more accessible.
  • Safety features. Grab bars in the shower or near the bathtub, a chair-height toilet, non-slip floor surfaces and lever-style door handles (easier for arthritic hands to use) are all small improvements that can make a big difference in comfort and safety.

Plan Now for an Easier Tomorrow

This approach to home remodeling involves proactive planning to avoid physical barriers and extend the length of time one can remain at home. Age-in-place design is best done before the need exists. At the Remodeling Company, we want to find the best solutions to increase the enjoyment and value of your home, and are eager to respond to any variety of issues that might come up during your remodel. For the best remodeling in Virginia Beach, give the Remodeling Company a call at (757) 903-0050.

Your Roof’s Role in the Architectural Design of Your VA Home

Blog

Your Newport News roofing is one of the most basic and important structures of your home. It provides shade from the hot rays of the sun, keeps us dry from the rain, and protects us from snow, hail, strong winds, and other disturbances brought about by the weather.

The roof also tells us much about a structure’s architectural character. It is among the first things we notice when looking at a building or a home. This component of your home is often intended to be the defining feature or focal point of a structure.

Slate roofs, for instance, are characteristic of historic buildings. Slate is known mainly for its longevity, but homeowners are also drawn to its clean and classy appeal when used in roofing systems.

Other designs that have roofs as a defining feature are Queen Anne and Georgian. The former uses gabled roofs and signature turrets for a castle-like or royal appearance. The latter is famous for hipped roofs that emphasize the buildings’ trademark symmetry.

For all the work that it does in providing us shelter from the elements, our roof also takes a regular beating. Even the most beautifully crafted roof may need repair work over time. In order to preserve your roof’s appeal and condition, it’s important to do regular roof checks to find and fix problems.

The Roofing and Remodeling Company is your leading team of roofing contractors in Newport News VA and surrounding areas. We offer a full range of roofing services, including slate roofing repair and inspection. We also work in preserving and repairing historic homes and buildings.

Further, we are the recipient of several awards, including the Virginia-Pilot Readers’ Choice “Best of” Hampton Roads Award and Angie’s List Super Service Award.

We are also Master Elite® roofing contractors certified by GAF, the top manufacturer of high-quality roofing materials. We are honored to have been presented with the GAF President’s Award in 2012 and 2013,and Master Elite Excellence Awards from 2008 to 2012. Rest assured we use only top-quality materials and techniques in our services.

How to Create a Healthier, Safer Home for You & Your Family

How to Create a Healthier, Safer Home for You & Your Family

The National Centers for Disease Control and Prevention define a healthy home as a structure that keeps you safe from illness and injury. It also serves as much-needed personal space for you and your family members. With that in mind, it is important to keep your home in good condition to ensure a healthier living environment. Here are some tips from The Remodeling Company.

1. Make sure you have proper ventilation.

We spend most of our time inside our homes, which is why we need to make sure we’re inhaling healthy air. When remodeling a home in Norfolk, VA, make sure the attic has adequate ventilation and is leak-free. Doing so can ward off mold and moisture issues. You can also install quality windows that ensure year-long indoor comfort and energy efficiency.

2. When remodeling your home, make sure contractors follow safe work practices.

If you need contractors to do repairs in the kitchen or bathroom, make sure they follow proper safety procedures. For example, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has certified The Remodeling Company to complete painting projects. This means we can properly handle these kinds of projects without harming your family’s health.

3. Organize your clutter and upgrade storage spaces.

Clutter can be a breeding ground for disorganization and even pests. Turn messy areas into tidy, stylish spaces with added storage space. If you have an out-of-date kitchen, let our experts do a custom kitchen upgrade to improve functionality and add the “wow” factor to your home.

4. Upgrade your bathroom to include age-in-place features.

Age-in-place remodeling that makes a home more accessible and comfortable for seniors is an increasingly popular remodeling service. Improvements such as installing grab bars on the side of the tub and adding a walk-in bath or shower can increase safety, especially for elderly individuals.

Creating a healthy home can make a dramatic difference in how you and your family live. Make sure that every area of your home is at its best with quality services from The Remodeling Company. We’re the choice for a kitchen remodel in Richmond, VA, bathroom remodeling or a room addition. If you need a complete house makeover, we can help with that too. Take the proactive step towards a healthier home and schedule a consultation today. You can reach us through our contact form.

Faucet Selection! Begin with the End in Mind!

Remodeling with a Recipe for Success

As with cooking, there are specific ingredients that go into each recipe that make it successful. Each remodeling project is no different.

There are a few general items to consider that make each project as unique as every recipe:
  • Budget
  • Design/Build Process
  • Selections

When choosing a faucet during the selection process sometimes we start with knowing more about what we don’t want than what we do. As you can see from the picture this was a poor choice.

We love working with Ferguson because there are so many choices. Your home faucet selection can easily be inspired by your personal design style. Whether you prefer a more tradition faucet, like more modern water faucets, or make a transitional home faucet selection, the choice is yours. Your design style is just one of the many factors impacting your home faucet selection.

If you don’t ever want to have peeling, nasty, grimy faucets again; our design team can point you in the right direction. We can listen to your needs, what is important to you, and point you in the right direction. With our experience installing faucets into Hampton Roads homes, we have overcome unique customer problems.

For example, I have a daughter with long hands. She is excited about choosing a faucet which extends out further so that she never has to hit the back of the sink again.

Since we serve all of Hampton Roads it makes it easier for us to get you to one of their showrooms in Newport News, Gloucester, or Virginia Beach.

I found this blog from Home Style Choice. They do an excellent job of explaining all of the different types, styles, configurations and constructions of faucets.

What faucet style do you prefer for your kitchen vs. the style you prefer for your bathroom? Have there been styles that you would not recommend?

5 Hot Trends in Room Additions for Hampton Roads

Industry News

Here are five popular room addition trends our design team can make reality...

  1. Indoor/outdoor dining. Today’s family wants comfortable, casual areas to experience dining and entertaining. If your family enjoys mealtimes but lacks elbow room, consider enlarging your eat-in kitchen area by adding a breakfast nook, or expanding the kitchen into the family room or formal dining room. For even more flexibility, add an outdoor dining area that can become an extension of the kitchen with the addition of French or sliding doors on an existing wall.
  2. Relocated family rooms. Adding a family room near children’s bedrooms, where the space can be used for study and other activities, makes sense for many families.
  3. Media rooms. With the rise of the flat-screen TV and video gaming, more people than ever are staying home to enjoy media experiences. A home theater room with comfortable seating for audio and video enjoyment can be a fun investment for techies.
  4. Larger garages. Most families now have multiple vehicles, and no one wants to leave their car unprotected from the sun, rain and snow. An expanded garage allows for more space for parking plus the additional storage that families need.
  5. Second-story additions. When you can’t expand out, expand up! Customize square footage to your needs without losing yard space and landscaping with a vertical addition. Adding a second story your home will be the most dramatic makeover possible for your home!

The Roofing & Remodeling Company offers deep experience in room additions for Hampton Roads, Chesapeake, Norfolk, Newport News and Virginia Beach homeowners. We’d love to be your contractor of choice! Call us today at (757) 867-6600 to schedule a FREE consultation with our design/build experts.

Always Get Professional Help with Home Remodeling in Virginia Beach

Industry News

You may think you’re smart when it comes to remodeling your home. However, in an article published in The Huffington Post, Fraser Patterson thinks otherwise. What may appear as smart moves are actually big mistakes.

These include – hold your breath – “withholding funds, buying the materials yourself, not planning out the entire project from the beginning, not specifying the details early on, focusing on nailing down the contractor, not the project, trusting the website to choose a contractor, not having a pre-defined arbitration agreement, thinking you know more than your contractor, staying home during the remodel, thinking your renovation is just like your neighbor’s renovation, and not acquiring the necessary permits.” Whew! Basically, these mistakes are due to the lack of proper planning and knowledge.

As Patterson pointed out:

So you’ve decided to remodel your home! And you’re determined to be smart about it. You’ve heard the horror stories about contractors running off with five-figure sums and new kitchens being ripped out because they didn’t pass inspection. None of that will happen to you! You’ll take precautions! Or so you think.

Sometimes the things we do to avoid a certain outcome simply make that outcome more likely.

If you’re thinking about home remodeling in Virginia Beach, find time to discuss matters with professionals like The Roofing and Remodeling Company even if you think you have all the useful information from your own experiences, researches and resources. Unfortunately, unless you are a professional engineer, architect or interior designer for that matter, all you have is limited knowledge about something that is too technical for your comprehension.

It’s a fact that professionals know more about the home than the homeowner. So regardless of what your problem is – whether it has something to do with the kitchen, bedroom or bathroom remodeling in Virginia Beach, teamwork is essential. Communicate your expectations but trust the technical experts to come up with a solution that effectively addresses every problem you have.

The success of your remodeling project lies in the significance of every team member’s contribution. For your part as the homeowner, that translates to the monetary aspect, your inputs and approval. Your technical team will share their experience, skills and knowledge with you. So don’t think you know everything. More often than not, that assumption leads to failure.

Research on Color when Kitchen Remodeling in Virginia Beach Homes

Industry News

Choosing the right color or motif for your kitchen is crucial to maintain an inviting ambiance for cooking and eating, which is the main purpose of your kitchen and dining area.

Lee Wallender, writer for About.com, discusses the different colors that may or may not fit a kitchen design:

Blues, greens, purples, and other colors in similar families do not promote hunger, and in some cases even curb it. Thus, they don’t work as well in kitchens. However, if you’re fortunate enough to have a dining area completely divorced from the kitchen, then there is less of a pressing need to lay down colors conducive to eating.

For homes near the pristine beaches of the world’s largest resort city, Virginia Beach, kitchen design isn’t really a priority. The fresh breeze and sunlight at the seaside invite residents to enjoy their meals at a leisurely pace even inside a bare kitchen. However, color choice is necessary for every kitchen designer who makes excellent kitchens even for the average home. Remodeling contractors like The Roofing and Remodeling Company have experts that can play with colors, neutralizing some of the sharpest or dullest ones to allow them to mix perfectly with kitchen functionality.

With enough white tint, any color can become neutral; it’s just a matter of which type of neutral you want. The best thing is that you can’t exactly go wrong with using mid-range neutrals in your kitchen.

Kitchen remodeling in Virginia Beach is more exciting than daunting if you have an idea of how colors can influence your regular kitchen activities. For instance, you can communicate with your contractor about having the walls in red and the rest in complementary colors. “While red as a kitchen color is not for everyone, it should be considered if you want to add spark and spunk to your kitchen. In a kitchen with plenty of dark colors, it can cut through the gloom.”

Generally, you have to decide on the color your want your kitchen to have before purchasing furniture and fixtures. One effective tip is looking closely at the designs of the finest bistros. Although normally you won’t see their kitchen, the dining area holds many clues. The motif of their dining area has a lot to do with the people’s excitement to try the food, which is something you should consider before remodeling in Virginia Beach homes.

Things to Consider Before Building Home Additions in Virginia Beach

Industry News

Should you settle for a home addition or buy a new home? That question may be difficult to answer considering that there are many factors to consider.

As Investopedia noted:

If built correctly, your sparkling new addition may improve your home dollar-for-dollar, resulting in a higher sales price when you finally put it on the market. This, of course, assumes a “normal” real estate market. A depressed home market may or may not warrant building an addition if you plan to sell in the near future. In that case, you might want to concentrate on home shopping to take advantage of depressed prices.

It’s clear that home addition is a cost-saving option for some and even encourages creativity. However, one drawback is “over improving” a home. This can be a problem if you decide to sell the property in the future. Other disadvantages include unwelcome deviations to the original plan and disruptions to your usual activities.

Improving your home can be both exciting and rewarding. It certainly feels good if you give life to your dreams and aspirations. On the other hand, be prepared to endure the hassles that go with home additions. At times, you have to work hard to reap the rewards.

Looking at good examples of home additions in Virginia Beach can inspire you to do one too. However, do not commit to the project if you are unprepared. Wait until you’re ready and confident about your ability to handle the demands of the project.

Above all, don’t overdo it or you will find it difficult to sell your home in the future. Know how much your home will cost after the addition and determine whether you can attract buyers later. Closely monitor the project to avoid overspending. Anticipating potential disruptions to normal activities can likewise keep everyone’s stress levels down.

For instance, when you are at the planning stage of building another room, discuss your requirements with service providers like The Roofing and Remodeling Company. Get quotes from different companies that specialize in room additions in Hampton Roads to make comparisons. Make a decision only after everything has been taken into account.

Before You Pick: Pros & Cons of Various Kitchen Cabinets

Info Articles

Kitchen remodeling involves a number of essential considerations from design and structure to cabinet options. Choosing the type of cabinets for your upgraded kitchen can make or break the kitchen’s overall look.

With a range of options in form, material, and size, selecting the right cabinet for your kitchen may be challenging. To help you choose, here are the pros and cons of common cabinet types for your kitchen remodeling in Virginia Beach:

Traditional Cabinets

Traditional kitchen cabinets are commonly made of solid wood. Typical hardwoods types are maple, oak, cherry, and birch. When it comes to style, cabinet doors and drawers have sculpted details outlining their shape. Usually, the natural color of the wood is retained and enhanced with varnish. Wood can also be bleached or painted to suit different home styles.

Pros: Traditional cabinets can be easily repainted to cover scratches and dents. Minor flaws such as small chips and nicks can be repaired easily with wood chalk. Also, it would be easy for you to repair broken doors with handy tools. Plus, they look amazing.

Cons: Traditional cabinets made of wood material are more prone to scratches and dents. Water from your sink or faucet may also cause rotting of the material and lead to mold growth. Warping is also a common problem that you would encounter overtime due to humidity.

Stainless Steel Cabinets

Stainless steel cabinets give your kitchen an urban appeal. They feature a spic-and-span look, as this material is easy to clean. This also known to be a durable material for cabinets.

Pros: Stainless steel is easy to clean and maintain. It is more durable compared to traditional kitchen materials such as wood. This material is resistant to stain, water, and rust.

Cons: On the downside, fingerprints mark on stainless steel. Also, it easily absorbs heat that may provide discomfort as you do your kitchen activities. This type of cabinet is also prone to dents that are difficult to repair.

Modern Cabinets

Modern cabinets are customized, typically in patterned or flat structures. They give your kitchen a contemporary vibe.

Pros: Modern cabinets are low-maintenance and easy to clean—complementing today’s fast-paced lifestyle. They are resistant to stain and water, making them long-lasting compared to other types.

Cons: Unlike traditional cabinets that can be repainted to cover minor flaws, the faded color of laminate due to heat exposure cannot be repaired. The adhesive that holds the material and interior surface can also become loose overtime.

In selecting cabinets for your kitchen, consider their purpose. Assess first if they are suitable for your appliances and furniture. The pros and cons of each material must be taken into consideration in light of the overall look and function you would like to have. We recommend you look at our other styles too: Southwestern, Simply Spanish, Arts and Crafts, Country, Old World, and Romantic.

You can always ask a professional for your kitchen remodeling in Virginia Beach and surrounding communities. Don’t hesitate to consult The Roofing and Remodeling Company. We can help you choose the fitting options for your kitchen. Call us at 757-867-6800 to schedule a free in-home consultation.

Entrust Home Additions in Virginia Beach to a Reliable Contractor

Info Articles

Steve Brachmann’s article for SFGate.com shares tips on how to determine the cost of a room addition project. Unlike conventional renovation, additions entail increasing the size of the floor plan by building an extension room adjacent to an existing room. According to Brachmann, the two major areas that make up the major costing are labor and materials. However, the cost might change if you hire a reliable remodeling contractor.

Brachman suggests:

Figure out what fixtures you plan to add to the room. Plumbing work and the installation of a bath and sink will increase the cost of a bathroom over a similarly sized family room that which may just have furniture. Identify which appliances and fixtures you want to buy and tally their costs as part of your total price tag for the room addition. Also consider the plumbing or wiring you need to purchase for running water or electrical appliances.

Extension rooms are common in Virginia Beach and Newport News residences. Home additions in Virginia Beach allow families to live in a bigger home without changing residence. No wonder many homeowners are beginning to prefer this strategy instead of building a bigger home elsewhere, which can be very expensive. Brachmann adds:

Talk to a contractor if you require professional help to complete the room addition. Before hiring the contractor, make sure you understand the labor charges per hour or day and ask for references. You should also ask for a written quote on materials; if it’s far more than the cost that you identified, you may save money by [providing] the building materials yourself.

You’ll be caught deciding between hiring a contractor or doing the project by yourself with help from some workers. While the latter may seem practical, it is not ideal in terms of quality and effort. Imagine having the trouble to understand how construction works to be able to pay your workers properly and buy the right materials. A reliable remodeling company like The Roofing and Remodeling Company can do those things more efficiently.

Entrusting room additions in Newport News to remodeling contractors may cost a bit more. However, looking at the durability and safety of their work will convince you that it’s good investment. An excellently done home addition will raise your home’s resale value. This is a bit unlikely for a project that was done without the aid of a certified remodeling firm.

Great Space-Saving Kitchen Remodel Ideas

Great Space-Saving Kitchen Remodel Ideas
Info Articles

Small kitchens can be big on style. Smart use of kitchen remodeling can help you maximize your kitchen’s space and make it look much more appealing. By eliminating the unnecessary and streamlining everything, your kitchen will look larger and feel more open. The Remodeling Company gives you these great tips to make the most of your available space.

Make Everything Seamless

The goal of a kitchen remodel in Richmond, VA is to optimize the available space, including the sink. If you go for a single bowl sink, you can save a foot or more of counter space. Using an undermount sink saves even more space and adds a seamless style to the kitchen because the sink’s edges are hidden. This seamless look can be extended everywhere. Subtle and minimalist hardware for your cabinets will look stylish and help keep the lines of your kitchen crisp and clear.

Small is Beautiful

Your appliance choices are also critical. Revamped vintage appliances and vintage-look appliances can come in smaller sizes without skimping on style. Combine this with a multi-functional all-purpose island where all the essentials are located, and your kitchen will feel more open.

Retain only the Essentials

A key aspect of space-saving home remodeling in Norfolk, VA is removing the clutter. Keep only the essentials and leave superfluous things out. This will make your kitchen look sleek. If you find a door or wall unnecessary, then consider having them removed. This makes the kitchen easier to move around in.

Just because you have a small kitchen doesn’t mean you can’t dream big! We can help turn your kitchen remodeling plans into a reality. The Remodeling Company has a staff of industry experts who will not only meet your expectations, but exceed them. We will listen to all your needs and concerns and do our best to follow your vision. The satisfaction of our clients is what drives us to excel in every project that we undertake. Give us a call to learn more about our products and services.

Making Home Additions vs. Buying a New Home

Info Articles

If your family is getting bigger and your home is beginning to feel a bit cramped, you might consider moving to a bigger house. However, moving houses can sometimes be really difficult—the cost, the hassle of moving your things, and the emotional stress it could bring your family are surely aspects you really have to think about.

The Remodeling Company, the most trusted contractor when it comes to home additions in Virginia Beach and the surrounding communities, has the best solution for your problems—room additions. Here are some of the advantages of home additions:

Provides Extra Space without the Hassle and Stress

Adding an extra room in your house is definitely the best way to ensure that your growing family will have sufficient space and be able to live comfortably without having to deal with the stress of moving out of your community. Aside from that, imagine just how tiring and stressful it would be for the whole family to pack everything you own, stuff them into rented moving vans, and haul everything to your new home. You will also need to prepare your new house before you can even really settle down.

Affordable Alternative to Buying a New House

It is definitely way more expensive to purchase a new house than to add space to the house that you currently have.

Creating Your Own Personal Touch

Whether you’re enlarging your living room or adding an additional bedroom, you’ll be able to put in your design contribution to your own home. You are, of course, given full liberty to choose the layout and style you want for your new room.

As you can see, making room additions will benefit you more than purchasing a new home. That’s why we at The Remodeling Company suggest investing smartly with room additions in Newport News and the surrounding communities. Call us now to schedule a free consultation.

New Year, New Interiors: Some Virginia Beach Home Additions for 2014

Info Articles

2013 has come and gone. With 2014 in full swing in every part of the world- including Virginia Beach, Virginia- you might want to think about getting some renovations done for your home, such as a new bathroom or fixture replacements for your kitchen. To that end, a House Logic article by Dona DeZube suggests some Virginia Beach home additions for the New Year.

Future-Proof Kitchen

I’m nearing the end of what turned out to be a nearly two-year long kitchen remodel, but if you’re still in the contemplation stage, consider some of 2014’s top kitchen remodeling trends care of property listing site realtor.com:

  • Modern design with white or gray cabinetry
  • Simple countertops
  • Minimalist designs
  • Appliances that blend into the cabinetry
  • Hammered, matte brass hardware

Several of these kitchen “trends” — particularly white, minimalism, and simplicity — are actually not trendy, but enduring.

This will prove useful when resale time comes around. Another feature you could go for is hardwood flooring, which is easy to clean, highly-resistant to stains and grime, and compatible with many kitchen designs. As a bonus, hardwood flooring is eco-friendly, meaning you get to do your part in caring for the environment when you use it.

DeZube’s article goes on to suggest the use of flex rooms, or rooms whose purpose can be adjusted according to your needs. Bookworms could add a bookshelf and turn the flex room into a reading room while hosts who often have guests staying over could simply add a closet and a bed to make a functional guest room. Those who work at home could even use the flex room as a receiving area for their clients.

A third factor to keep in mind is color. According to the Pantone Color Institute, 2014’s Color of the Year is Radiant Orchid, which “blooms with confidence and magical warmth that intrigues the eye and sparks the imagination.” That said, DeZube cautions against fleeting trends and suggests going for neutral interior colors; Manchester Tan, Warm Caramel, and simple white are some great choices.

Ready to welcome the New Year with an interior home makeover? Go for room additions from Hampton Roads contractors like those from The Roofing & Remodeling Company. It may be cheaper to do it all by yourself, but nothing beats top-quality work from trained professionals. Happy renovating and Happy New Year!

Tips for Creating a Kid-Friendly Bathroom This Summer

Tips for Creating a Kid-Friendly Bathroom This Summer
Info Articles

Summertime is just around the corner. Once again, you’ll surely have your hands full with the kids running around the house all day. Improve things in your home by doing some kid-friendly home remodeling projects. These will not only make your home safer for your kids, but also make their daily routines easier. These will also teach them the valuable lesson of learning how to do stuff themselves. A great place to start is the bathroom.

Creating a Kid-Friendly Bathroom

As parents, we want to teach our kids the importance of personal hygiene—and doing it by themselves, of course. However, if your little ones only have access to a bathroom whose fixtures are better suited for taller and older members of the family, how do you think they will brush their teeth or wash their hands if the sink is too high for them to reach? This is where making the bathroom more kid-friendly can come in handy.

So how can you make your bathrooms more accommodating to children? Here are some recommendations by The Roofing and Remodeling Company, experts in bathroom remodeling in Virginia Beach and the surrounding areas:

  • Adjust the height of the work area. The work area is where the sink and items for personal hygiene (e.g., toothbrush, toothpaste, hand soap) are usually placed. Make it easier for your kids to reach it with bathroom remodeling. You can either readjust the height or install a lift-out step (a step you can easily pull out or put away beneath the sink) at the bottom of the countertop.
  • Install towel racks and bathrobe hooks at lower levels. This will make it easier for your kids to reach their towels for drying their hands and faces.
  • Add more color. Using bright colors and exciting designs will make your bathroom more fun for your kids. This will also make bath time more appealing.
  • Install easy-access shelves. Your children probably have tons of stuff they use or play with during bath time. Store their rubber duckies and other bath toys in a shelf they have no problem reaching.

As you can see, there several ways you can make your bathroom kid-friendly. All you need is a bit of imagination and some help from The Roofing and Remodeling Company—your experts in bathroom remodeling in Virginia Beach and the surrounding areas. Make your home more accessible and enjoyable for your children this summer by creating kid-friendly bathrooms. Call us today at (757) 903-0500.

  4. Stock your pantry with disposable wares – Store recyclable kitchenware like cups, napkins, and utensils.
  5. Use your grill – if the weather permits, this may be a good time to cook outside using your grill.
  6. Keep a stash of snacks – If you can’t put together a full meal because of the construction, keep snacks like crackers for a quick meal.
  7. Remember the goal – While the construction might be an inconvenience now, think of when the project’s been completed.

Virginia Beach Bathroom Remodeling: Improving Your Home’s Resale Value

Info Articles

The bathroom is a high traffic area in the home, and as time passes, certain elements like the fixtures, cabinets, flooring, windows, and other components will need to be updated. While bathroom remodeling will require a significant financial investment, it offers homeowners in Virginia Beach, Virginia, many advantages. Aside from improving the functionality and aesthetics of the bathroom, bathroom remodeling in Virginia Beach, together with kitchen remodeling, provide the highest return on investment (ROI) among home remodeling projects.

Homeowners who rely on the expertise of professional remodeling companies, like The Roofing and Remodeling Company, can expect an ROI of 70-80 percent. The following excerpt from HGTV explains the difference between a mid-range remodel and an upscale remodel:

Remodeling defines a mid-range remodel as putting in a toilet, tub with a tile surround, an integrated solid-surface double sink and vanity, recessed medicine cabinet, a ceramic tile floor and vinyl wallpaper.

An upscale remodel includes expanding the room an additional 8 square feet into existing space, adding a window, moving fixtures such as the toilet and replacing them with high-end models, a 4- X 6-foot tiled shower with a shower wall, a bidet, stone countertops in the vanity with two sinks, linen closet, tile floor, lighting, an exhaust fan and other amenities.

Comprehensive remodeling in Virginia Beach will focus on improving the layout of smaller bathrooms, ensuring that the limited space is utilized well by adding the necessary furniture, fixtures, and other elements. Moreover, elements that have become redundant or underutilized can be removed. For smaller bathrooms, underutilized closets or cabinets can be removed and ambient lighting can be installed to help create the illusion of a larger room.

Reputable remodeling contractors will guide homeowners on all aspects of the remodeling process. Once homeowners have selected the paint for their walls, they can then select a new type of tile for their bathrooms. Vinyl and ceramic tiles are some of the most popular choices as they are water resistant and easy to clean.

On the other hand, removing old tiles can be time consuming and some pieces may refuse to come off. A much faster and simpler process is to remove the underlayment together with the floor covering. Starting with a new underlayment means getting rid of a foundation that might be water damaged. Cutting the underlayment into smaller sections will make the removal process easier.

Remodeling and Interiors

Remodeling with a Recipe for Success

As with cooking, there are specific ingredients that go into each recipe that make it successful. Each room addition, bathroom or kitchen remodeling project in Chesapeake, Norfolk, or any of the surrounding towns is no different.

There are a few general items to consider that make each project as unique as every recipe:
  • Budget
  • Design/Build Process
  • Selections

Budget

No matter how small or large your Chesapeake area kitchen remodeling or bathroom remodeling project is, defining your budget is the first item that needs to be addressed before moving on to the next step. You may want to consider the return on investment for your project by viewing this years’ Cost vs. Value Report published each year by Remodeling Magazine. This report compiles the average cost of remodeling and the average cost of the return on its investment across the nation.

Design/Build Process

Design/Build is a process where your entire project—from the initial design concepts and budgets, to permits regulations and zoning laws, to actual construction and final walk through—are organized and performed by a single entity, a single point of responsibility. Whether performing a room addition in Chesapeake, a bathroom remodeling in Norfolk, or any other remodeling project in the Hampton Roads and the Virginia Peninsula region, an organized plan is the key to exceeding expectations.

Cost-effective, practical construction, designed directly into the project. Sound good? It gets better.

For you, making The Remodeling Company your remodeling solution means:
  • You get exactly the design you want
  • You help prevent time delays and cost overruns
  • You get a team that works seamlessly for you through the whole process
  • You receive regular progress reports and complete insight into all stages of your project
  • You get the most out of your remodeling investment – in greater home value and greater personal enjoyment

Choosing a Remodeler over an Architect

Many people have found that using an architect to design a Norfolk area home addition or remodeling project results in a beautiful design that the owner pays top dollar for. But without contractor consultation during the design phase, oftentimes the result is a design that will cost more to build than the owner can afford. Architects will tell you that a very small percentage of their designs ever actually get built.

With the Design/Build process it’s a “synergistic” approach: the owner, contractor, and designer collaborate on a design that will achieve the owner’s dreams and can be built within the owner’s budget.

The result of the Design/Build process is a design with blueprints that can be built “on time” and “on budget.”

Selections

Yes, this is part of the design process but also can be one of the most overwhelming because of the vast amount of choices. We will personally work with you and meet you at the local vendors’ location to pick out the selections for your Norfolk area home addition or remodeling project. This is where the dream of your design starts to become a reality when you can touch, smell and personally envision these items in your own home.

What Does Our Customer Have to Say?

You guys did a fabulous job! We will gladly recommend you to others. Thanks. Pat & Gardner were wonderful. They knew exactly what we wanted and really made it happen.

Mark & Mary Mueller, Yorktown, VA

A Message From the Designer

Mr. and Mrs. Mueller came to us with a common customer desire. They wanted a room to entertain their family and friends. They have a beautiful back yard, and they wanted to enjoy the view from within the comfort of their home. Utilizing our design-build process, we worked together to plan all aspects of the room.

First, we listened to what they wanted to accomplish with their home improvement. We designed a room appropriate for their home mechanically and structurally. We wanted the addition to appear seamless and part of the original structure. During this design phase, Mr. and Mrs. Mueller also redesigned their kitchen countertop, sink, faucet and backsplash.

Every aspect of the building process was reviewed and all selections were made during the design process. This process was completed within 3-4 weeks and ensured the customer was in control of the budget. There are no surprises on the job and the final budget is exacting.

Once the design process is complete, the rest of the project quickly comes together. The end product was a custom built, warm and inviting entertainment area with large windows and doors which bring the outdoors in while at the same time meeting modern day Energy Star requirements. The room fit the style of the home perfectly. If appears as it the room was always there.

Due to the design process, the home owner had a flow chart to track the progress of the room and knew what to expect. The room was finished on time and on budget as designed. Mr. and Mrs. Mueller were so pleased we designed another project for them not long after this room was completed.

Adding Room in Hampton

Adding Room in Hampton
Gallery

The Rivera family hired The Remodeling Company in early 2007 to build an addition onto their two story home in Sanlun Lakes, Hampton. The design included an added master suite and master bathroom over the existing finished garage.

Once demolition was complete, framing the second-story addition began. The bay window in the existing finished garage was removed and replaced with windows to match the addition. That same bay window was then relocated, unscathed, to the rear of the home. A near-perfect color match of new siding was chosen for the left side and rear of the home. The siding that had been removed during demolition was then reused on the front of the house. This ensured that there would be absolutely no noticeable difference in shade from a street view. Once the addition was built, the chimney was extended due to code requirements.

During construction one of the design challenges we faced was building the addition without disturbing the existing den (under the added master bath). The Remco construction crew was able to cleanly do so while the Rivera’s continued to live in the den from start to finish.

For the customer, one of the many benefits of a design/build is seeing dreams for their living space come to fruition. For the Rivera’s, two of these specialty features in the master bedroom were the vaulted ceiling and a radius wall. In the bathroom, every fixture was handpicked by them, from shower faucet to vanity lights.

Although Mr. Rivera was deployed with the Navy for most of the construction, we were able to keep him updated with the status of his project through email with pictures. We, at The Remodeling Company, understand the importance of keeping the customer informed through every step of their project. After all, we’re not just building additions, we’re building relationships.

An Addition for Grandma in Yorktown

Get a glimpse of our work in the Running Man neighborhood A Message From the Designer

Cynthia and Stephen B. came to the The Remodeling Company through one of our previous customers. This project was unique because of Cynthia’s mother, a spry 90 year old who came to stay with her on a permanent basis.

They wanted a dual purpose room addition for their aging mother. Later, the room would become a master suite for future use.

Utilizing our design build process, we worked together to create the layout and design that fit them best. We evaluated the mechanical and structural systems of their existing home and aided in the selection of all the products.

During the design phase of the process, we identified the need for a handicap bathroom, a small sitting area with a view and the desire for a small kitchenette. These desires were all incorporated into plans for the new room addition and as you can see from the pictures, the room turned out beautifully.

We delivered a custom built mother-in law suite with a 6 x 6 walk-in closet with a modifiable shelve system by Closet Maid. The addition had a small bathroom with a sun tunnel, shower, vanity and comfort height water closet. We added a kitchenette area with sink, microwave, and small refrigerator.

Cynthia and Stephen chose a full view patio door to allow great vistas of the birds and squirrels, their back yard is alive with a variety of wildlife. Previously, Cynthia’s mother would spend hours watching the action out the dining room window. Now, Cynthia is quite pleased to welcome her mother into her new room, with a wonderful view all her own.

New Spa Master Bath in Newport News

New Spa Master Bath in Newport News

This bathroom remodel was not what we would call a “complete overhaul”, although a couple of choice changes would give it that appearance. For starters, the existing vanity was a built-in, attached to a dividing wall. This dividing wall, which separated the locations of the shower and commode, was removed to give the bathroom an open floor plan. Ms. Rash chose a furniture-style cherry vanity with a black granite top.

The white sink contrasts the black granite nicely, yet pulls together the other white fixtures (tub and commode). You will notice that the vanity and commode were given new locations, made possible by a few plumbing changes. The bypass shower door was replaced with a modern, frameless style. New sconce lights, in a brushed nickel finish, were added on either side of the vanity mirror.

One less-obvious feature we’d like to point out is the tile. Ms. Rash wanted to incorporate the existing shower tile throughout the bathroom. So once the old wallpaper was removed, the same tile was used for the bottom half of the bathroom walls. A new 13 x 13 inch tile was selected for the floor (a larger tile helps give the appearance of a larger space). The natural stone look of the tile with sage green undertones keep well with the green tile on the walls.

By incorporating the old with the new, a space can be transformed; making it more functional and eye-appealing without breaking the budget.

New Master Bath in Va Beach

The homeowner of this Virginia Beach townhouse decided to do a complete master bathroom remodel, not only to accommodate her own needs, but also to give it a visual facelift.

Once all of Ms. Patterson’s tile, granite, and fixture selections were made with our Selections Coordinator, the crew began demolition. Everything was completely removed down to wall studs and sub flooring. The size of the shower was increased by removing and rebuilding the left-hand side wall.

The shower walls were done in a twelve by twelve inch tile to give the shower an even larger appearance. Small deco tiles were placed in a diamond pattern just above eye level to give it “that something extra”. (Tip: Deco tiles are a great way to add pizzazz and personalization to an otherwise basic tile without blowing your budget.)

Bigger tiles mean less grout lines. This, combined with a handheld shower wand on a slide bar, makes the shower a less cumbersome place to clean.

A corner seat was built into the shower with granite top to match that of the vanity (both cut from a remnant piece of granite!). The vanity’s cherry shade was selected to coordinate with the new laminate wood floor in the adjoining master bedroom.

All of the plumbing fixtures and accessories were selected in a polished brass finish, which give a very luxurious touch.

Building a New Deck in Hampton

Building a New Deck in Hampton
Gallery

You may not think of the fall and winter seasons as the time to construct an outdoor project. But we think this is the ideal time to get it done so you can spend time enjoying it when the warm weather returns! The Dofflemyer family had The Roofing Company and The Remodeling Company reconstruct their backyard this past winter, leaving it completed just in time for the spring.

We began by demolishing the less-than-appealing sunken brick patio and cover. The existing rear door, that connected the laundry room to the patio, was removed and replaced with a vinyl window. To the right of the home, the dining room window was removed and a French door was put in its place. This would be the new entrance to a 14 by 17 foot composite deck, complete with hidden fasteners, vinyl railings and decorative lattice. The HVAC unit, that once stood where the deck was built, was relocated to a less conspicuous spot. Because the bricks that had been removed from the window and door areas were reused for the new mason work, there was no mismatching between old and new. To complete the project, the site was graded with topsoil and seeded for grass with plenty of time to turn green for the summer!

Adding a Deck in Norfolk

Adding a Deck in Norfolk
Gallery

In these warm-weather months, there’s nothing like a festive cookout on a backyard deck to entertain our friends and family. However, doing so on a traditional wood-built version can become a chore with the hassles of cleaning, staining and repairing warped boards. The homeowners of our featured project knew just that. The once small-scale, painted wood deck would be transformed into a much larger, multi-level, composite outdoor space.

This would be just right for their frequent backyard get-togethers. The hot tub that once occupied the space to the left of the sunroom was relocated to the right hand side, just below one of the new levels. This opened up the expanse of space surrounding the sunroom allowing not only a larger deck, but also a better flow of traffic. Benches and flower boxes were custom built giving the area dimension and eye appeal, not to mention functionality. And although it may have been multiplied in size, the upkeep of their deck has incredibly decreased (this translates to more time enjoying their space and less time fretting over it). The great thing about composite decking is you can get the look of wood without the labor that it requires. The benefits for the environment aren’t half bad either since composites are made from recycled materials. And because of it’s long life, these homeowners will be enjoying their deck for years to come!

Adding a Front Porch in Virginia Beach

Adding a Front Porch in Virginia Beach
Gallery

When it’s cold and dreary outside, it can be hard to focus on your outdoor living space. But as we’ve mentioned before, there isn’t a better time to make an upgrade so that when the anticipated warm weather arrives, you can enjoy it. The Fralick family decided to give their home a “face lift” by adding a front porch last winter, with plenty of time to spare before the arrival of sunny summer days.

To start, the original shutters and siding on the face of their home were removed and the groundwork was laid for a 30 by 6 foot porch. A concrete walkway was poured to lead from the driveway to the new brick stairs, centered on the porch. Vinyl columns and rails provide a nice match to the new white siding, as well as durability and little to no maintenance. New gutters and downspouts were installed and the shingles on the porch’s roof were selected to match the existing roof of the home. The shutters were replaced with a raised-panel style in black – a nice contrast to the white siding. Bead board on the porch ceiling gives it a finished look with added dimension. Finally, two ceiling fans were added to improve air circulation and increase comfort on those hot summer days.

Family Gets a New Kitchen in Hampton

Family Gets a New Kitchen in Hampton

When Mr. & Mrs. Wilson decided to revamp their dated kitchen, it was “out with the old and in with the new.” But, this job was more than just a swap-out-the-old-appliances kind of remodel. The kitchen’s original layout used space poorly. It felt crowded with the protruding eat-in dinette and appliances placed in close proximity. A complete redesign was necessary for the new kitchen to meet the Wilson family’s needs.

To start the process, every existing item in their kitchen was completely removed; from the lighting to the cabinets and flooring. The homeowners chose beautiful new wood cabinets designed to optimize the use of their kitchen space. This included corner cabinets, one with a glass door for displaying dishware, and a handful of extra wide drawers for storage. The refrigerator was relocated to the corner of the kitchen where furniture once awkwardly resided. This relocation allowed for additional cabinetry, both along the side of the oven and next to the entry door. The dishwasher was moved to the opposite side of the sink, thus allowing freedom of movement between the appliances. New granite countertops with an under-mount sink were a valuable upgrade, while the vinyl flooring with a tile-look was versatile and attractive without breaking the budget. Under-cabinet lighting and a pendant light over the sink provided well-lit work areas as well as a softened look. Finishing touches, such as stainless switch plates and cabinet hardware pulled it all together for a sophisticated modern day look to this new kitchen.

What Does Our Customer Have to Say?

We have just finished a major kitchen, dining room, and bathroom remodeling project and could not have done it without Jesse Wyatt. Jesse is a knowledgeable consultant with a very friendly manner. His personal attention to detail and passion for making his customers happy guaranteed a successful outcome. We definitely recommend The Remodeling Company and Jesse Wyatt to all our friends. We are looking forward to an Open House soon to show off our new luxurious kitchen.

Tracy Toole, Yorktown

From The Designer

When they said “a picture speaks a thousand words”, they must have been referring to those shown here of the Toole family’s finished kitchen remodel. By updating & upgrading all of the kitchen’s features to an elegant state, they created a space where, not only will everyone want to congregate, but they will never want to leave!

Although the general layout remained the same, each element of the kitchen was replaced by luxury. Where once stood white-washed cabinets with a matching island, you now find cherry wood with a darker stain on the island. The sophisticated mismatching of wood is tied together by the color pattern in the glass tile backsplash.

The polished look of granite countertops is kicked up a notch with the new under-the-cabinet lighting, which is both a visual additive as well as functional for the work space.

Bland looking vinyl flooring that blended into the rest of the kitchen was replaced by pre-finished hardwood flooring that provides a visual break between the floor & cabinets.

All new stainless steel appliances are modern upgrades that tie nicely together with the brushed nickel cabinet hardware and plumbing fixtures.

One significant alteration to the kitchen’s design is the wall of cabinets surrounding the refrigerator. The home originally held a closet style double-door pantry. By shifting the refrigerator over several inches and adding ceiling-to-floor cabinets around it, the Toole’s were able to add quite a bit more storage space and an additional countertop. Through the doorway to the right, a wet bar was added for entertaining – complete with built-in wine bottle storage, an under-the-cabinet stemware rack, storage drawers and a wine chiller.

Improving the Kitchen in Newport News

Gallery

It’s all in the details. That’s why The Remodeling Company knows that there’s “no job too small”. Even a simple repair can make a world of difference, in a kitchen for example, as seen in these before and after photos. This homeowner was in need of a new range hood and decided to change the look altogether since this proved to be the best time to do so.

The existing wall cabinet and undermount hood were removed and replaced with a stainless wall mounted hood. The backsplash was tiled from range to ceiling in a tile selected and supplied by the homeowner. What an improvement changing out a range hood can make, not only efficiently, but aesthetically as well!

Bright Kitchen Remodel in Norfolk

Bright Kitchen Remodel in Norfolk

Few rooms are as welcoming to family and friends as an open and bright kitchen. It is, after all, where we spend so much of our time, especially during the fast-approaching holidays. With the help of The Roofing Company and The Remodeling Company, the Spencer family took their kitchen from little to large, as seen here.

A 175 square foot kitchen was added on to the rear of the home, as well as a new 10 by 12 foot deck. The space that was the original kitchen was converted into an eat-in dining area. The classic white cabinets and natural-looking laminate counter tops provide a modern update and functionality without the fear of becoming outdated over time. Recessed lighting throughout the new space and a pendant light over the sink emit a warm glow while preventing shadowed work areas. The vinyl floor assures easy cleanup and durability to withstand the traffic flow in and out the back door to the new deck. A great transformation, to be sure! But don’t take our word for it… here’s what the customer has to say!

Newport News Kitchen Update

Newport News Kitchen Update
Gallery

A first-story sunroom addition and a remodeled kitchen brought this Newport News home up to date while also conforming to the lifestyle of its homeowner. Mrs. Rash has a green thumb that she wanted to put to use indoors, as well as out. This would require a “change of space” with a few bonus features.

First began the demolition of the existing rear deck to make room for the added sunroom and a new adjoining deck. Shingles and cedar siding were selected to match the existing home. Since the homeowner spends a lot of time with her hands in the dirt, a mudroom connects to the sunroom on the opposite end of the deck’s location. Complete with a set of storage cabinets, full-size sink, and an easy to clean tile floor, the mudroom provides the new rear entrance. Including a powder room in the sunroom’s space increased the home’s number of bathrooms. To keep with the natural light of the sunroom, windows were added in the mudroom and powder room.

Since the kitchen’s rear wall had to be removed to make way for the sunroom, this proved the perfect opportunity to remodel the 1970’s style space. New cabinets, countertops, appliances, lighting, vinyl flooring, and an elongated island rounded out the remodel. Even though the kitchen’s layout remained the same, it is hardly recognizable after such a transformation!

Kitchen Revival in Yorktown

When they said “a picture speaks a thousand words”, they must have been referring to those shown here of the Toole family’s finished kitchen remodel. By updating & upgrading all of the kitchen’s features to an elegant state, they created a space where, not only will everyone want to congregate, but will never want to leave!

Explosion Becomes Remodel

Explosion Becomes Remodel
Gallery

In June 2009, Dr. & Mrs. Edwards experienced total disaster when a gas leak caused an explosion in the garage of their Newport News home. Shortly after the blaze began, Remodeling Company staff members arrived onsite to immediately begin assessment of damage. Sales team member, Jesse Wyatt has serviced the Edwards’ in the past for various home improvement projects, and in fact, had been currently working on a proposal for their windows to be replaced. This project was about to become quite more extensive.

In order to contain the fire, firefighters and city workers had to tear down the garage and part of the 2-story house. Although still standing, the rest of the home was, for the most part, destroyed due to pockets of fire, blown out electrical sockets, shattered windows, soot, and extensive smoke damage. Additional rooms on the garage-end of the house would later be completely removed by The Remodeling Company.

To start, the Edwards’ home had to be completely gutted down to the studs. Pieces of furniture that survived the fire were sent for cleaning & restoration. The entire roof system was removed and replaced. Every component of the home was rebuilt or replaced – windows, duct work, gas piping, HVAC units, insulation, drywall, flooring, trim, electrical wiring & fixtures, cabinets, siding, some of the exterior brick, interior & exterior doors, stair rails, tile, appliances, plumbing fixtures, countertops, bathroom mirrors, etc. And of course, the section of the home that had been completely removed was rebuilt as new construction. Even the front yard landscaping required an overhaul, with tree removal & replacement of bushes & plants.

As the project came upon completion in June 2010, Dr. & Mrs. Edwards began to move back into their “new” home. They were so pleased with the process and outcome of their restoration that they hosted an open house on behalf of The Remodeling Company. Family, friends, neighbors, and special guests of RemodelCo toured the home one Saturday in July and got a first hand look at the home that was taken from condemned to complete… not to mention, even more beautiful than it once was.

Emergency Remodel in Norfolk

Emergency Remodel in Norfolk
Gallery

When you hear the word “remodel” you may be inclined to picture that spa-like bathroom you’ve always dreamed of or a fresh new kitchen with state of the art appliances. For some homeowners, though, a remodel may not be planned or expected, but rather a matter of getting their home back to a livable state. This homeowner in Norfolk experienced such a case when the nor’easter of November 2009 uprooted a tree and caused significant storm damage.

When The Remodeling Company arrived to install an emergency tarp, there was a tree and a dismembered chimney embedded in the roof. The resulting damage extended through the roof framing and into the interior walls and flooring of the home’s second story. Once the tree and chimney were removed, repairs began on the exterior. This included reframing the damaged areas of the roof and replacing the shingles on the entire rear slope. Siding and guttering were replaced, to match the existing, on the second-story dormer. And of course the chimney was completely rebuilt.

Inside the house, drywall was heavily damaged inside the dormer and over the staircase. Portions of water logged framing and trim had to be replaced, and then new drywall went up. The stairway and dormer walls were repainted in colors selected by the homeowner, and the carpet within the dormer was replaced.

As mentioned before, a remodel can be the result of a “want-to” or a “have-to”. But in either case, The Remodeling Company is here to see the project through!

Kitchen Remodeling for Norfolk Area Homes

Kitchen Remodeling for Norfolk Area Homes

A Norfolk area kitchen remodeling project encompasses so many different facets from the raw to the grand and lofty style; from the least to the most important detail that it can easily be overwhelming even to the most determined you! Since the kitchen is the most important avenue in a home where everyone ends up and meets most of the time within the day, it must be a space conducive to spending time together.

A fine kitchen remodel can provide a more convenient cooking space that will make it an envy of friends and visitors and can dramatically increase the beauty of a home. A poorly designed kitchen has a bad reflection on a house as a whole and has a drastic effect on its liability factor. The best way to increase the value of a property is to update the kitchen to be trendy and more functional.

There are trendy kitchen cabinets and kitchen islands, which can move in to provide core functions. But it is not that simple; the task within a kitchen remodel is tricky since there are many small elements to be taken into consideration. It only follows that before renovation takes place a homeowner should check several things in mind to get the full benefits from this tough but rewarding project.  Consider this checklist:

  • Budget: First things first. Is there an available budget? You may want to estimate how much money you may spend for kitchen cabinets, kitchen islands and all the details you want to change or add to your kitchen. Kitchen remodeling can be very costly but don’t let it discourage you because when it is done the right way, you will not have to do it again for many years.
  • Needs and desires: Would you like to freshen up the place with new cabinets, appliances, floors, or countertops? Your need might be new cabinets because the old ones have fallen apart. Your desire might be for a new sink because the old one is ugly but still works well.
  • Is it worth putting yourself through it: Can you stand working men in your home for long hours, at the same time spend money and put yourself through this difficult situation? It may be more expensive to renovate a kitchen than any part of the house but it can retain or add value to a house.
  • Full-scale or surface-level: Decide first and be honest if it is going to be a full-scale or surface-level remodeling.
  • Choose a contractor: This is a very important part in the project. Looking for a contractor that offers quality service at the best price may be difficult. A Website or online portfolio will provide a glimpse of one’s skill and expertise.

Before starting on your Norfolk or Chesapeake area kitchen remodeling project, be sure to decide if you want to hire a professional contractor or do-it-yourself. It must be your primary concern to calculate what you want to be done and how much it will cost you. Remember that there might be additional cost for electrical and plumbing fixtures that may arise in the process that should be included in the budget. If you are confused how to get started, we are here to help you!

The style of your new kitchen cabinets can directly impact the overall look and feel of your home. A well done kitchen remodel will help to complement and enhance your personality and provide you with years of enjoyment.

There are a number of different styles to choose from. Here are just a few options:

Stainless Steel:

Stainless Steel kitchen cabinets provide a very clean and almost industrial or urban look and feel. They are very easy to clean and provide long lasting durability.

Traditional:

Traditional kitchen cabinets have an inherent warmth and coziness to them. The doors and drawer fronts are typically nicely sculpted. While the color of the traditional cabinets has leaned to more wood tones, there has been a more recent trend with white washing and lighter stains.

Modern:

Modern Kitchen Cabinets are truly on the cutting edge. Clean and Crisp lines with the occasional sweeping arc are some of the hallmarks that define the Modern Kitchen. The doors and drawer fronts usually have a nice blocky texture. Modern kitchens lend themselves well to a lot of customization with pull handles and bright vibrant colors.

In addition to these three styles, our designers will also help you look at other styles that include:
  • Southwestern
  • Simply Spanish
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Country
  • Old World
  • Romantic

I have used The Roofing Company and The Remodeling Company for more than 8 years on three different home projects in my Virginia Beach home. They have always been professional, attentive, and produced a high quality product with superior craftsmanship on every project. In 2007 The Roofing Company and The Remodeling Company completed a new roof w/ architectural shingles and ridge cap in a addition to new gutters w/ gutter toppers. I called them back in 2010 for a new chimney cap while I was out of the country and remotely coordinated and received a photo documentary via e-mail upon completion. In 2012 I asked them to come out to wrap my fascia boards and replace my soffits while I was working out of state, and again a superior product with excellent communication. Lastly they came out today over two years since my last project to conduct a complimentary inspection of all work performed and didn’t try to sell me anything. The Roofing Company and The Remodeling Company has always been and continues to be a high quality professional company where you get what you pay for!

Mark Boedicker

My wife and I have spent last week interviewing six roofing companies for a bid to provide a new roof for our Virginia Beach home. The only thing I know about roofing is what I have read on the internet. Last week was an educational experience to say the least. Chuck Simpson was the last to be interviewed Saturday afternoon. He pretty much said what everyone else said and his price quote fell in line with most of the others. However, he did something during the interview that none of the others did or even mentioned. He went up into our attic to make sure there was nothing hiding under the shingles on the roof. Three of the six companies did not even bother to go up onto the roof to see what condition the roof was in and the other two just took measurements and said nothing about any possible concerns.

I signed a contract with Mr. Simpson Saturday evening because of his concerns that we receive a trouble free roofing system. Not because of pricing (there were three bids lower than his) or for his claims about GAF roofing materials. Mr. Simpson took the time to thoroughly check our roof to make sure nothing was missed.

I still think the price is too high, but after the roof is installed and I never have to call about a problem I suppose the price was just right.

Larry S., Virginia Beach

I have a slate roof and they repaired it. They replaced broken or cracked slate, engaged an animal control person to check and make sure no animals had gotten into my attic, etc., checked thoroughly to find the source of the leak.
Great job. very professional. Work is guaranteed. I think the guarantee lasts a year. Best roofer I’ve ever had, and I’ve had several of the locals cheat me blind.
The company has expertise in all kinds of roofs, not just slate.

They came out and went over the roof, then gave me a price, including all contingencies. They showed up when they said the would come, did the work, completed the job, and cleaned up. Absolutely no problems.

Fran J., Angie’s List for Slate Roofing, Norfolk, VA

The Roofing Company and The Remodeling Company was the second company I called for a roofing estimate to replace our twenty year old roof that was beginning to leak. The previous company did a walk-around the outside of the house with a tape measure and did “guess-timates on the dimensions of my roof and gave me three estimates (good, better, best) ranging up to about $8000. No inspection of the roof or anything else. I then called The Roofing Company and they sent out Earl Holben to do an estimate. Earl spent over an hour inspecting my roof, taking pictures of problem areas, going up into the attic checking for leaks and damage from the inside and getting accurate measurements. We then sat down and went over all the options for installing a new roof. I eventually went with his near the top estimate which included adding the edge vents to allow the ridgevent to work properly. My house had no soffit vents and only gable vents. His top estimate added custom copper pipe collars which was a little over the top for me. I was told it would probably be about five weeks before they could start the job. They actually started in about two. Sandra Landers was the project manager and did a wonderful job. She met with us and explained all that was going to be happening and verified the contract details. The crew showed up early on a Thursday morning and went straight to work. They placed tarps on the ground around the house and over shrubs. They brought their own trailer to haul off the construction waste so we didn’t have to put up with a waste container that a waste company would have to pick up later. By Thursday afternoon they were about 90% complete. The main house was done. Only the sunroom remained. They were back the next day and finished by around noon. The clean up was excellent. In fact my lawn, driveway and patio actually looked cleaner and neater when they finished than before they started. The only damage done was one piece of vinyl siding got nicked by an errant piece of roofing caught by the wind. Sandra herself came back a few days later with a replacement piece of siding and fixed that. All-in-all, they did an excellent job which I’m very satisfied with. I highly recommend The Roofing Company and The Remodeling Company.

Ronnie B, Angie’s List for Roofing, Hampton, VA

Description of work: New architectural shingles and chimney repair. Removed old shingles, replaced all bad wood. Repaired chimney crown and flashing which was damaged by a previous masonry contractor. Member Comments: I do not usually give all A’s in my reports (see other reports by me), but I am very pleased with the quality of their work. My roof looks better than those on new houses and I feel like I won’t have to worry about leaks ever again. I have used The Roofing Company before for minor repairs (leaking roof and chimney flashing) and I was pleased with their work,so when I saw that Angie’s List had a coupon for a complete roofing job, I decided to take advantage of it. I have a large complex roof (4200 square feet hip and valley) and it took 2 1/2 days to complete – they finished on Saturday morning. All workers behaved like professionals.

Jared P, Angie’s List of Roofing & Chimney Repair, Virginia Beach, VA

Re-roofed the whole house, installed edge venting around the entire perimeter, installed a whole house ridge vent, replaced sheathing as required. Job took one full day. The crew was outstanding!!! I commend Kris, Andrew, Edwin and crew for the OUTSTANDING JOB they did on my home’s roof. It looks fantastic, and most importantly we brought the house up to a much better standard of construction. I very much appreciate their dedication, craftsmanship, and professionalism from start to finish.

Rich D, Angie’s List for Roofing, Chesapeake, VA

My old roof was almost completely removed and replaced with new plywood, paper and shingles along with new flashing and better ventilation system. Both the salesman (Chris) and the project manager (Don) were great to work with. The crew was very professional and on time and efficient.

Micheal M, Angie’s List for Roofing, Virginia Beach, VA

I apologize for the tardiness in sending this note. I am writing to tell you how pleased we are with our remodeled kitchen. Greg Crawford was excellent in running the job, keeping us informed every step of the way, making sure the subcontractors were coordinated to get the job done timely. Dave Lindsay was great to work with and provded excellent advice and customer service. Would you please share these comments with the owner of your firm. Thank you.

Raymond I., Norfolk, VA

[More-Entertaining-Virginia] You guys did a fabulous job! We will gladly recommend you to others. Thanks. Pat & Gardner were wonderful. They knew exactly what we wanted and really made it happen.

Mark & Mary M., Yorktown, VA

A brand new architectural shingle roof was built on our 1997 house. We had our roof completely redone after finding out many short cuts were taking by the original builders. The house was built in 1997 and had several spots that had leaks. We had our insurance inspector come out and show us the embarrassing work that somebody had originally done and the reasoning the roof was in such bad shape. The Roofing company took 1.5 days to complete the project. The roof looks great and has quality written all over. The workers were very courteous. At the end of the work day our yard and deck were cleaned up and looked as if nobody had been doing construction. The Roofing Company comes highly recommended after our experience with them.

Christopher & Larissa K, Angie’s List for Roofing, Suffolk, VA

[Edwards After] Jesse, Roof looks great! Tim accomplished his usual “excellent craftsmanship.” He is quite talented and the Remodeling Company is lucky to have him on staff. Thank you for helping us with this. Enjoy remainder of summer.

Dr. Carter E. Newport News, VA

Complete roof replacement. Two story home with dormers and steep roof pitch. Existing shingles removed and new roof system installed. This was a substantial big job. Overall an excellent job was performed and a most pleasant experience dealing with The Roofing Company. The sales person (Jim) provided sound recommendations, explained the estimate in detail and was very professional. The installation crew was superb. Quality work was performed and extra through in cleaning up.

Leo S., Angie’s List for Roofing, Suffolk, VA

The Roofing Co. reroofed completely and installed gutters. Jim, my estimator, was extremely knowledgeable and professional. Don, my project manager, gave attention to detail was second to none, and the crews job and cleanup was awesome. I would recommend The Roofing Co to my friends and family.

Mariel A., Angie’s List for Gutter Repair and Replacement and Roofing, Virginia Beach, VA

Re-roofed including a 25 year full warranty from GAF. From start to finish the job went great! Jim Smith, my estimator, helped me pick the job I was most comfortable with and I would recommend The Roofing Company, to anyone!

Damon A., Angie’s List for Roofing, Newport News, VA

Replace plywood that was cut way too low for ridge vent on house. It was a wonder the ceiling had not leaked sooner. The home inspector and agent never even caught this on the inspection. Dave came out right away and quickly identified the problem. He coordinated the crew to come out and repair the roof. Jesse was the lead guide on the project. He was very professional and prompt. Displayed professionalism during the entire process and kept me abreast of the progress. I will definitely use the Roofing Company again and will recommend them to my friends. Member Comments: Extremely well.

Russell P., Angie’s List for Roofing, Hampton, VA

The project was done logically in steps. Company provided all details and answered all questions concerning what was to be done, why, and at no time pressured for a specific option. Rather, the options were explained thoroughly. From intial explanations to follow-ups to the actual crews working on the house, we were very satisfied. They provided details, which we were definitely in the need to know with such a large expenditure and again, they respected this. Their concern was two fold- that we understood what was going to happen and why. This is quite different from a company that is primarily interested in profit. We would definitely recommend this company to anyone having this work done. One last thing, our neighbor is a retiree from “GAF” (company that makes roof shingles). he told me that he watched the roofing crew from beginning to end and was very impressed by their work. We were too, but having his comments is certainly a testimony as well.

Ralph P., Angie’s List for gutter Repair & Replace, Roofing & Skylights, Chesapeake, VA

I contacted The Roofing Company because I had a leak that my home warranty company failed to repair. Jim came out on time and patched a small nail hole and repaired a small portion of missing shingle my warranty company contractor failed to find. He gave me a great amount of free advice and his card for my planned future remodel. I will most definitely use and recommend this company! Professional, polite, punctual and above all – PLEASANT! Thank you Jim, for making my day a little easier!! Member Comments: Excellent – I will call this company for all my planned remodeling!

Nicole S., Angie’s List Roofing, Norfolk, VA

[Luxury Kitchen and Kitchen Cabinets] We have just finished a major kitchen, dining room, and bathroom remodeling project and could not have done it without Jesse Wyatt.

Tracy Toole, Yorktown, VA Explore the Toole Remodel Showcase

We moved into our home in July of 2006. A tropical storm rolled in at the beginning of September and revealed to us that the 15 year old roof on the house that we had just purchased was shot. Water was blown under the shingles in a number of spots on the roof. We asked folks at work if they could recommend a good roofing company and the company folks kept mentioning was “The Roofing Company Inc.” We had to wait a couple of weeks to get an estimate because the wind from the storm had damaged a lot of homes in Hampton Roads. About two weeks after our estimate, the actual work began. To the best of my recollection, the work only took about a day and a half. The half day was due to the fact that we had rotted roof decking. The Roofing Company representatives that we dealt with were extremely professional and knowledgeable. Their rep was able to answer all of our questions about roof replacement, types of shingles, differences in price quotes that we had received from other roofing companies, and warranties. After the work was done we regretted that we had chosen the 3-Tab shingles instead of the Architectural shingles that the rep had recommended. The Architectual shingles look a lot better and are more durable. I recommend that you spend the extra money and consider it an investment. We have contacted them since this work was done to get estimates on other home repair and refurbishment projects. The Roofing Company exceeded our expectations.

Latricia J., Angie’s List for Roofing & Skylights, Yorktown, VA

He was the company representative who came and measured the house and told me all the options available. He gave me two printed detailed proposals (the basic and the best). He gave me a folder with brochures and details on options, colors, & warranties. When I called him to hire the company he also readily answered my questions. The next step was a visit from the site supervisor, Dink Cohen, who explained all the details of putting on the roof, what kind of mess to expect, protecting the plants, etc. He also reviewed the contract in detail before I signed it. There was a week and a half delay because of rain. The materials were delivered at 7:30 Monday and the crew started at 8:00. The job was done by 6:00pm Tuesday. Dink was sick so there was a new site supervisor, Shawn. There were six roofers and two carpenters. They worked hard and fast. Everyone was friendly and professional. I was consulted and shown any problems with the carpentry before it was done. The majority of the work was done on Monday and the finishing up done on Tuesday. The site was cleaned up before they left. The racket will get on your nerves. Get earplugs. The bill was actually a bit below the estimate. I was immensely pleased with the whole process from beginning to end.

Mark & Jane V., Newport News, VA

I felt as though the willingness to explain why one product was better than another or why the need to have something installed versus not having it installed was communicated to my mother and myself very well. The representative and project manager went out of their way to accommodate the short turn that I was asking for. I was only going to be in town for a short period of time and I wanted the work completed when I was there. My mother and I agree that The Roofing Company was our 1st choice. We were very pleased with the workmanship, cost and timely communication that we received from The Roofing Company.

Phyllis & Pearlie B., Hampton, VA

Work was first class & workers were very efficient. We were very pleased with the professionalism, and would highly recommend them

John H., Hampton, VA

I wanted to let you know how satisfied I am with my installation. Justin and his Crew were very professional and highly talented. They were concerned about the installation and took their time with cleaning up after each days work. I will recommend your company to anyone who asks me about a Roofing Company.

Mike C., Portsmouth, VA

Work was done as promised. We are pleased with the results. We requested to have straps replaced to lower exposed holes in siding from removal of old gutters. This was done and we are pleased with the results. Thank you.

Elena O., Chesapeake, VA

I was very happy with the work done on my roof this week. The crew did an excellent job on the roof and cleanup – looks great.

Terri B., Newport News, VA

We love the color and overall appearance of our new roofing system, the appearance is very impressive. The overall experience was enlightening. The employees were very courteous and friendly. They worked hard and diligently. They answered all my questions and concerns. I have already referred The Roofing Company to some of my family and friends.

Joseph & Henrietta C., Hampton, VA

I am very pleased with this project. Pat does outstanding work and has been awesome with keeping me informed (daily) throughout the whole project. Pete has also done an excellent job helping me bring this project design to fruition. Additionally, the subcontractors you have selected do exceptional work. Your team continuously displays professionalism and has definitely made this a no stress effort. I am very satisfied and look forward to future work with your team. Thank you.

Ken D., Hampton, VA

Would like to THANK The Remodeling Company for doing such a wonderful job on our kitchen. They took us from a tiny cramped space to an unbelievable modern kitchen. We can now easily have family and friends over for a meal and not feel like we are getting in someone’ space. The freedom of movement is well worth the time and money spent on our project. All of the people who helped in making our dream come true were kind and thoughtful in every way. They went all out to do anything we wanted done and made very helpful suggestions along the way. We would recommend this company to anyone thinking about having a remodeling job done. We are 100% satisfied with the outcome and the workmanship The Remodeling Company has done for us. Thank you all again and know that we will assuredly call upon you in the future with any other jobs we do.

Caroline & David S., Hampton, VA

I am quite pleased with my upstairs porch replacement. I found the employees polite, industrious, and neat workers.

Gloria P., Newport News, VA

The work was wonderful and they did a great job. They kept me on details about everything they did or were going to do. Job well done.

Glorious C., Yorktown, VA

My wife and I have needed additional storage space for years. When the time was right we sought out contractors to build a 1,100 square foot detached garage on our property in Hampton, VA. Soon we found The Remodeling Company, as well as, other contractors. After receiving bids we selected The Remodeling Company due to price and professional interaction during contract discussions – it only got better from there.

Once construction started I was amazed at how much progress was done each day. In 13 business days the construction was completed. Some may think it must have been thrown together, but I can assure you it was not. Having experience in construction myself the work was top-notch. Additionally, when interacting with The Remodeling Company employees the were always professional, polite, and punctual. We are truly impressed. In fact, it’s only been on day and we have already south The Remodeling Company as our sole source contractor for future bathroom upgrades we are planning.

I have absolutely no reservations about recommending The Remodeling Company to friends and acquaintances. Karen and I are very satisfied with the framing construction The Remodeling Company did for our detached garage project. The workers were friendly, polite and professional during our interactions. The work performed surpassed expectations too – fast, precise, and well done. The work site was cleaned fairly well at completion.

Jeffrey M. L. Hampton, VA

Very Efficient and professional. Small job but we were treated very well.

Brenda S. Rowe – Unity Business Systems

Sales representative was very professional and knowledgable, didn’t try to pressure you to make a commitment, offered three different estimates for three different levels of service. Installation crew showed up on time and got right to work, finishing quickly and doing a thorough cleanup. Very impressed with overall experience and would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to replace their roof.

Craig M., Angie’s List for Roofing, Hampton, VA

I am very satisfied with the products and the workmanship that have given my home a like new appearance. It has been a pleasure doing business with you.

John Y., Portsmouth, VA

I like your systems of payment, pay when job is completed. The gentlemen who worked on the roof courteous and friendly. When I hear of people needing a new roof I’ll refer them to The Roofing Company. My wife and I were really pleased with the neatness and cleanness of the pick up around the property.

Alfred and Mildred P., Newport News, VA

Dink and the staff at The Roofing company provided excellent customer service. The quality of work was outstanding. The house has never looked better. The fact that everyone was knowledgeable and willing to explain what was being done gave me a sense of relief on such a big purchase. I will use this company for any future home improvements.

Jon A., Hampton, VA

Just to let you know, I really appreciated the communications I had with Adrian. It’s hard to discuss on going work with an out of town owner. He was great to work with.

Anita T., Hampton, VA

The roof looks great! Overall I am please with the entire process and will use this company again in the future. Thanks a lot!

Patricia B., Yorktown, VA

Just wanted to touch base with you guys to say how refreshing it was to find a company this is responsive, reasonably priced and with a conscientious staff. After trying for some time to find a company that would come out when they said they would I found your listing during an internet search. I filled in my information on the website on last Sunday evening and I received a call the next day indicating that a salesman would be at my house at 11 am on Wednesday to provide an estimate if I would be available. It was great not to have a window, like most companies do, that says we will be there between 12-4 or so. The appointment was set at 11 am and the salesman, David, was there ahead of time, which was great for my schedule. He took his time and analyzed what the damage was. He then explained to me what had to be done, the estimated cost, and prepared a formal agreement. This was also a plus. That is to have a mobile office with a formalized contract with licenses and presented in a nice package. This approach, to me, indicates that the firm is credible and says that management cares about its image and the work they do. After we executed the contract, David indicated that it could take as long as two weeks to get to us, which was acceptable to me, but he indicated that in some cases might be opening earlier. He indicated that a foreman would call and let me know when they would be there. I met with Dave on Wednesday and Nick, the job foreman, called on Thursday and indicated that he would be there on Friday. The job was completed today, Friday. I was not able to be there but indicated to Nick if it would be alright if I called the office and gave them my credit card information for the final payment and he indicated it was okay. I called the office and spoke to Debbie and gave her my information and asked if she would fax me a receipt. The whole process was a pleasure. So I would just like to say that your business model is a great one and if I have any work in the future I would not hesitate to call or to offer you firm when asked for a referral. Thanks again.

Tyrone B., Hampton, VA

We liked the overall appearance of the job. The employees are courteous and answered all of our questions. We will refer you to our family, etc.

Hal G., Hampton, VA

Was well satisfied with the overall job. The roofers were very nice and did a very good job cleaning up.

Dallad M., Williamsburg, VA

The Roofing Crew had very good communication with each other – working well together. Considerate with clean up. Good Work.

Deborah M., Newport News, VA

The roof is one the most important elements of our home. We interviewed 4 other companies before making our decision. The Roofing Company “out shined” all the other companies. We received a referral from a co-worker and would most definitely refer the roofing company to our family, neighbors and friends. Thanks for the new roof!!

Latricia J., Yorktown, VA

The workers were extremely quick and efficient. They were also very good about cleaning up and putting things back where they belonged. At the end of the day, we couldn’t even tell that anyone had been there except for the fact that we had a new roof!

Melissa B., Chesapeake, VA

I decided to us The Roofing Company over three other lower bidders due to the extra care and time put in by the Estimator, Jim. I then discovered that the same care and professionalism came through with your Project Manager, Dink. He came at the times he said he would come. He thoroughly explained the project. His employees showed up when they said they would and finished the job when promised! The extra cost was not a surprise because Dink had prepared us for the possibility of them occurring. My wife and I are very pleased with the quality of the materials, workmanship, and overall experience with your company. Both Jim and Dink should receive a loud “attaboy” from the management of The Roofing Company.

Keith M., Williamsburg, VA

I just wanted to let you know once again, how pleased I am with the roofing company. Shawn and his team were this week putting water repellent on my brick walls. As usual, they were efficient, professional, and polite. They took extra care in cutting out covers to protect my windows; I provided cokes & cookies for the men and the glasses/plate were neatly placed on the sink in my garage when they were finished with them. Everything was picked up/cleaned up before they left. Shawn and his crew represent The Roofing Company to its highest standard. I will continue to recommend you to others.

Stephanie H., Yorktown, VA

Your company just finished replacing the roof on the one hundred-six year old house my wife and I are restoring. Our house has internal gutters. Not many roofing contractors knew what they were when we called for an estimate. The few who did, flinched at the idea of repairing them or offering alternatives for restoring them. From the moment we made contact with your salesman/estimator at Homemaker last year, to the on site trades – everyone knew exactly what we had and was knowledgeable on the subject. I spent twenty years building bridges and have some trade knowledge while my wife has none. The Roofing Company’s employees were able to communicate the process in a way that left each of us confident in the service and product we were to receive. There was never a point in the project we felt confused or uncomfortable. The stereotypes of roofing contractors are not flattering but the trades The Roofing Company sent were first-class, to a man, and do not fit the industry stereotype. The on site supervisor, Shawn, kept us informed of the project’s current status and went further to give us an accurate ‘look ahead’ for where the work would be at the end of the next day. The level of professionalism displayed by the two gangs, shinglers and carpenters, was reassuring. One never would have known ours was a complex job by the way they acted. The full crew arrived everyday with clear heads, ready to work – no bickering, foul language or confusion. At one point or another, I spoke to them individually about some particular task they were performing and received an articulate and courteous response. The value DeLisa and I received is more than either of us ever expected. Our house needs a great deal of restoration but none of it can happen without a sound roof system. We were very nervous in our search for a competent contractor and were even skeptical of your company. However, at each point along the way your company relieved our anxiety with information, quality materials and uncommon craftsmanship. In the even you encounter another client with the ‘sticker shock’ we had do not hesitate to give them our telephone number. The Roofing Company has raised my wife’s expectations of the caliber work performed on our turn of the century house and now I have to pick it up a notch to match the work your company performs.

Jesse & Delisa K., Portsmouth, VA

It has been a pleasure working with you and your staff. I appreciate the manner in which your staff handled the business at hand and aided me in the selection and replacement of my new roof. Thank you for a job well done.

Douglas C., Hampton, VA

Room Additions

Room Additions

Hampton Roads and Newport News Area Room Additions

At The Remodeling Company, we often work with local homeowners who are in the midst of making a decision regarding their home space needs. This decision usually comes down to two ideas: Moving or Adding On. To help facilitate this decision, we’ve come up with a series of questions that we believe will help our clients to make an informed choice.

  • Would your house be perfect if it were just a little bigger?
  • What would you do with more space?
  • If you do buy a bigger house and move your family, what will your new neighbors be like?
  • Will the kids have to go to a new school?
  • Will your commute be longer?
  • Will the places you travel to on a regular basis be as convenient?
  • How much stress will selling your current home and moving your entire household put on your family?

For homeowners who desperately need more space and have no problem packing up and moving, we won’t discourage you from doing so. But if a homeowner is skeptical about a move, and doesn’t know how to answer the last few questions, we suggest using our Hampton Roads area room addition service to gain the space they need.

The Remodeling Company can add a bedroom, bathroom, an office, a master suite addition, a family room a second story addition, or perform a whole house renovation. 7 Hot Trends in Kitchen Remodeling for Virginia Beach Homes

Tips

Because the kitchen is the heart of your home, it typically becomes a focal point during holiday gatherings. Unfortunately, large gatherings may also make your kitchen feel cramped, dysfunctional and outdated. If you find yourself increasingly unhappy with the layout and appearance of your kitchen, winter is a great time to begin kitchen remodeling for your Virginia Beach home.

Kitchen remodeling is one of the most popular home improvements, and currently there are several prominent kitchen design trends, according to Houzz, the home design and remodeling website. The site’s 2013 Fall Kitchen Trends study gathered responses from 7,812 homeowners in the U.S. and Canada who are either planning renovations or in the midst of them. Here’s what they said.

  1. Bigger isn’t necessarily better. Most respondents indicated a feeling of space in the kitchen is important. 77% said their kitchen will be open to other rooms, and more than 60% said their kitchen will incorporate an island in the layout. Only about one-third said they are enlarging the kitchen area.
  2. Upgraded countertops are hot. Of those surveyed, 94% are changing their countertops, with granite (50%) and quartz (35%) the most popular choices.
  3. Stainless appliances rule. Homeowners still favor stainless over other appliance finishes. 65% will incorporate stainless appliances, or combine stainless with other finishes.
  4. Floors stay natural. Hardwood and tile each claimed about one-third of the flooring material selection, while stone, vinyl, linoleum and other materials lagged far behind.
  5. Soft spaces. The largest majority (75%) of homeowners are choosing a soft, neutral color palette of whites, beiges and/or grays for their kitchens, as opposed to colorful or dramatic schemes.
  6. Younger homeowners go contemporary. Nearly half of homeowners age 44 and under described their kitchen remodel as “contemporary” or “modern,” while those 45 and older prefered a more traditional look.
  7. Eco-friendly matters. Homeowners care about the environment, with nearly half (49%) indicating that their kitchen will incorporate eco-friendly appliances and materials.

By planning now for your kitchen remodel, you’ll be sure to make 2014’s holiday celebrations extra special! If you are uncertain how to get started, The Roofing & Remodeling Company is here to help. Our Virginia Beach Remodeling Experts Prevent House Fires with One Simple Fix

Our Virginia Beach Remodeling Experts Prevent House Fires with One Simple Fix
Tips

In most households, the clothes dryer is an essential appliance. But few homeowners understand how to properly install and maintain their dryer, and this lack of knowledge can result in a serious fire hazard. In fact, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission estimates more than 15,000 fires are sparked by clothes dryers every year. The vast majority of these fires occur in residential buildings, sometimes resulting in injury and even death.

How a Dryer Fire Happens

How do these fires start? It’s simple. As load after load of wet clothes are cycled through a dryer, lint is created. Much of this lint is caught by the dryer’s filter, but some collects in the dryer vent system. As a large amount of lint accumulates in the dryer filter and the dryer vent, airflow is reduced and heat and moisture build up. The dryer continues to work, the temperature rises – and the lint becomes the perfect fuel for a fire.

Another cause of dryer fires happens from the outside. It’s a problem that Rick Fucarino, remodeling project manager at The Roofing & Remodeling Company, has seen all too often. “Sometimes dryer vents get a bird’s nest in them, especially in the springtime,” says Rick. “This causes a clog, and can lead to a fire.”

Avoiding Dryer Vent Fires

If you notice that your clothes are taking longer than a full cycle to dry, or if clothes feel unusually hot at the end of the cycle, these could be indications of a blocked dryer vent. Our experts advise homeowners to have their dryer vent system cleaned and inspected every other year to reduce the risk of fire and increase dryer efficiency. “We can disconnect the dryer vent lines, vacuum them out and replace them if necessary,” says Rick. “When it comes down to it, proper dryer maintenance can mean the difference between life and death.” He also recommends that some dryer vents be cleaned and inspected more frequently, such as small stack dryers, older dryers without temperature safety controls and dryers with vent lines that are longer than six feet from the outside of the building.

At The Roofing & Remodeling Company, we take our customers’ safety very seriously, and encourage you to take a look at your dryer vent system today. For questions or to schedule a dryer vent inspection, give our experts a call at (757) 903-0050.
